Put 1121 miles on the old Cavalier so far this week - and it’s only Wednesday! Houston to Siloam Springs, AR, on Monday. Siloam Springs back to Dallas on Tuesday. Dallas back home to Houston today. I really like driving, but that first leg on Monday (544 miles) was a bit long! On flip side, traffic all week was light and it was pretty much “set the cruise and go” the entire trip!

Wife and I took a cruise from Seattle to Alaska for our upcoming 50th anniversary. Got back early last Sunday morning. Over 5000 miles flying and 2000 miles cruising in a week is enough for this old boy!! The ship is only 2 yrs old and its beautiful. I went to Alaska in 1973 to Elmendorf AFB but this is the first time seeing the lower part.

Wife had to try out some Alaskan crabs in Skagway.

Just a little taller then the mountains in Louisiana!

Amazing how they get these 1,100 ft long ships in these ports.

The Norwegian Joy...we spent 7 nights on this ship and it was great.

Wife and I playing tourist in Ketchikan

Salmon jammed up in this stream.

Never expected to find a car museum in Ketchikan

Weapon museum next to the cars.

Most from the late 1800's.

Our ship docked in Juneau

The Norwegian Bliss...our sister ship.

Lots of mountains and glaciers.

Gardens in Victoria, BC.

Been thinking about an Alaskan cruise for our next family vacation - I’m not much of a “tropics” person, but a trip from Seattle up the Pacific Coast would be right up my alley! I’ve taken a boat from Seattle up to Victoria for a day trip before, but anywhere north of that I’ve never seen - bucket list!

Had some trouble with my big camera but lucky I had the smaller one for a backup. First time for me to see the lower part of Alaska...went to the Anchorage area in 1973 with the National Guard. The movie North to Alaska was filmed around Skagway...John Wayne was in it and Johnny Horton sang the song.

Our two daughters gave us this trip for our upcoming 50th anniversary. The ship is moving to Los Angeles for the winter cruises to the Mexican coast on the Pacific side. The ship was beautiful but the stops at the ports were a little too short. Too many jewelry stores and souvenir shops for me!! I like the scenery and history of the area. Wife enjoyed the gardens in Victoria and the city itself...not a bad climate either.

We have gone on 16 cruises. We have done the Alaska one a few times and it is my favorite. Two years ago we flew into Anchorage the day before and then we took a 4 hour trip by train to the ship and it was just great. We took our kids, one was in college and the other in high school and they loved it. We went whale watching, went a converted crab boat with a guy from Deadliest Catch, and the best was we went up a mountain in a Unimog and road a dog sled. It was typical humid 90 deg Houston weather and we went to light jacket upper 50 lower 60 degree weather. The kids favorite is the Allure of the Sea, Royal Caribbean that we went on last March. PawPaw is right, the way they move the ships around is crazy good.
