Thank you, sir.

Sorry to hear about the overheating issues. My old 87 GT used to have all kinds of heating problems and it was so frustrating.

Not likely, i would cold start the car and you should feel the upper hose go from cold to hot quickly as the thermostat opens as it should.

I would be more suspicious of the radiator itself then the water pump, if the water pump is broken internally, it should be pissing coolant out of the weep hole on the bottom as heat and pressure increases in the block, plus it would be overheating very quickly without the water pump. It sounds like the radiator is clogged up.

How does the AC run at idle? The electric fans working properly?

This car just started giving me fits this week. I'm not sure it's worth it to put any money into it.

I had a '98 Explorer that did the same thing near the end.

Didn't think about the pump leaking. It's not so we're good there. I'll check the upper hose tomorrow if I have time. Didn't think about the rad. being clogged, very possible. It is 13 years old with 221k miles on it.

Thanks Pat.

Oh hell no! I just said detoured, not cancelled.

Apparently L'ville had so much rain that I-65 north was closed. I've dealt with this before up there, no biggie. It may just take an extra hour or so.

lets try this again, how are the fans?

I would definitely look very closely at the radiator, you could grab an infrared thermometer and see if you have equal heat distribution across most of the surface of the radiator, or if only have hot temps across the top half or top 1/3

Sorry, forgot the fans. I know at least one is working, sounds like both of them are. I hear them when I pull in at home. I'll check that next week when I get back. I didn't drive it to work today just a few miles after I topped off the coolant.

I would guess an IR thermometer could be had at any parts for relatively cheap?
