When I lived back home in Minnesota, I thought truck bed tents were ridiculous. Then I moved down to Texas, with all kinds of "creepy crawleys" roaming around the campgrounds, and I've grown to see them in a new light....

I came very close to purchasing one. My turns off's of this Vs a regular tent were...
1)small -My coleman sleeps 4 easy, cant see more than 2 people in a bed tent
2)have to unload everything from bed to set up
3) expensive

The reason I aks is because on Memorial day weekend I plan on camping at the guadalupe river. I was goign to rent a camper trailer but looks like the plans are falling through. I do not have a tent right now and was checking my options. I may just sleep in my truck. I have done it before and it isnt that bad. I did notice they are about $200 too. Kinda pricey!

Got one and love it! The straps that hook on to the truck are covered in a very soft fabric to it won't scratch the paint.

Hows them front brake pads treatin ya?

Never saw these before, but NCSU's looks nice. How much did that one run you? Also, what do you do for flooring? Does the bed-tent come with some kind of soft pad or do you do something else?

(Not sure if truck springs would be an advantage here?)

I know, I know... It's on the to-do list. I'm still debating whether to replace the rotors or not, and if I do I'll go with the Stage 2 brake upgrade at www.modbargains.com

I think that one was $199 from autoanything. The tent has a canvas floor like any other tent, so I just throw an air mattress in there and a few blankets or sleeping bags. It sleeps 2 with plenty of room. Somewhere out there someone makes an air mattress that has indentations where the wheel wells are, so you get a perfect fit and can fill up the entire bed with the mattress. Forget where I saw that, but it was $100 or so, so I didn't get it.

Wal-Mart
Get yourself a 6 man dome tent and you are good to go. It has two collapse able fiberglass poles, thats it brother. You can be o the river in no time. Bed tents are cool bu limited. My wife and I have been camping every year in Texas at least 3 times a year since college (ten years ago). We always camp on the ground with a tent and air mattress. The sex is much better trust me. At the river in July you want to be on the ground or you will cook.

Add one set of jackstands to the camping list.

Not trying to start anythng, but if you've never used a truck tent, how can you be so sure the ground tents are better?

Personally I like the fact that can I crank the truck, open my sliding rear window and get either A/C or heat to blow in the tent. Or I can run power cords through there and charge my cell phone/laptop/etc. In reality it's just a regular tent, you can pop it off the truck and put it on the ground in about 30 seconds. The difference is you can't take a regular tent and toss it in your bed like this one.

I agree. And you can move your tent very easily.
