Virginia CCW process?

Alrighty I am looking up info on CCW permits in VA and I can't find that much on the process required to get one. I am 19 right now and I believe I need to be 21 to have a CCW correct? Anyways for you VA residents with CCW permits, what do I need to do to get one? Can I get one this summer and have it before I am 21 so I can get a handgun when 21 and carry, or do I need to wait till I'm 21 to apply for one? Thanks!

More than likely you'll have to wait until you're 21. Check out this link

I'm in the process of getting my Florida one. I just need to get my lazy *** to the police station so they can do the electronic fingerprinting. Then all I need is a passport photo and some stamps. And a big fat check. I'll probably get it taken care of over spring break.

Ok LEGALLY I can carry a shotgun or whatever in public as long as it does not have more than 20 rounds or if it's a shotgun more than 7. As long as it is in the open I can carry it no problem as per VA law. Now what I don't get is there was a case with a 19 year old doing that in my county and the cops had to give him his handgun back. How would I be able to possess a handgun? I am not 21 and can not buy one nor buy ammo for handguns. What is the law on handguns since I am 19. I mean as long as I have a holster on my belt or a tactical holster strapped to my upper leg, I can legally carry the firearm. Funny how I can walk into a store with a 12ga over my shoulder isn't it? I love VA

No I will not carry openly it would just cause issues anyways. I would, however, like to carry concealed when I turn 21. That way there are no issues with "OMG he has a gun!" sort of thing. I do like that there is an open carry law, but I don't think I would. I would rather just wait and have a CCW Also wondering about the handgun thing because I want to get into handguns also and have lots of practice with one before I am 21 and apply for my CCW. My dad will not buy one because my mom is anti-guns, so I was wondering if I had to wait 2 years or if I could possess a handgun? Would my dad have to buy the gun and ammo for me to possess one? Or can I just not possess one and just may as well wait till I'm 21? My best buddy is also going to get a CCW when he turns 21 so we will surely be going to the range a lot together Thanks!

The law is you can't own one until you turn 21, you have to wait. I'm not sure if you can rent one from a range and practice with it there. They usually only charge 8 dollars to rent it for an hour.

Better get a small caliber. Going to the range gets very EXPENSIVE very FAST.

Tell me about it I spend about 50-60 dollars every time I go to the range and that's just for one hour, 3 boxs of ammo, and 3 targets. I have a Smith & Wesson 9mm. After I get the second part of my tax return I'll be getting the HK USP .40

Go to gun shows around there. When I was living in VA there was always CCW classes at the gun shows. You can apply for your VA and FL permit at the same time. Definately get the FL permit, you'll be able to carry in more states. The VA one isn't bad, but it only adds a couple states that the FL permit doesn't.

I'm pretty sure you can have a handgun in your possession if your over 18. I think the law is you can have it but not carry it. (I.E. range) Also any time its transported it must be unloaded and locked away (glovebox). But like I said I'm not sure how you would go about acquiring the gun legally.
