We're shooting ourselves in the foot because of false environmentalism. We won't drill for oil off the coast of Florida, but the Chinese are drilling off the coast of Cuba. China doesn't care about their own environment--the certainly don't care about the USA coastline.

The coast of Florida is still closed to US companies. We're letting Sinopec have oil that should be going to KerrMcGee.

well you get my point.. I was refering to US companies ability to drill for oil off our shores. We can't stop anyone else. But they sure do punish American companies in the name of the envirogod.

 

More American oil is useless without increased refining capabilities...

 

This is true.

 

Back when I was in the oil industry, mid 70s, there were only 57 refinerys in the US. Those were owned by about 18 companies. Way too easy for that few to control the flow of petroleum. I had to get out of the industry because of the corruption I saw and it was eating me alive. I doubt it is any different today.

 

FREE KITTENS


*Little Suzy had a box of very small kittens that she was trying to give
away, so she had them out on the street corner with a sign 'FREE KITTENS'
next to them.

Suddenly a big line of big black cars came up with a policeman on a
motorcycle in front.

The cars all stopped and a tall man stepped out from the biggest car.

'Hi, little girl, what do you have there in the box?' he asked.

'Kittens' Little Suzy says. 'They're so small, their eyes are not
even open yet.'

'What kind of kittens are they?' he asked.

'Democrats' says Little Suzy.

The tall man smiled, returned to his car and they drove away.

Sensing a good photo opportunity, Sen. Obama called his campaign
manager and told him about the little girl and the kittens.

It was planned that th ey would return the next day, have all the
media there and tell everyone about these great kittens.


The next day, Little Suzy is standing out on the corner with her box
of kittens with the 'FREE KITTENS' sign and the big motorcade of
black cars pulled up with all the vans and trucks from ABC, NBC, CBS
and CNN.


Everyone had their cameras ready and then, Sen. Obama got out of his
limo and walked up to Little Suzy.


'Now, don't be frightened,' he said, 'I just want you to tell all
these nice news people just what kind of kittens you're giving away
today.'


'Yes sir,' Suzy said, 'The are all REPUBLICAN kittens.'

Taken by surprise, Sen. Obama said, 'But yesterday, you told me that
they were DEMOCRATS.'

Little Suzy says, 'Yes, I know. But today, they have their eyes open.'

 

No, but we're not talking about Enron. First, Enron was not Big Oil. They were an energy traiding house. Second, Ken Lay broke numerous laws and committed fraud on a massive scale. If he had not died, he'd be in jail for the rest of his life.

Edit: FYI, while I didn't own any Enron stock directly, I did own it as part of several mutual funds. Because I had diversified, the Enron collapse didn't hurt me much. I did, however, own Worldcom stock directly. Worldcom also defrauded shareholders at around the same time frame.

 

I disagree. Every barrel of additional US oil we produce is one less barrel we have to import and one more barrel of profit going to a US-based oil company. I'm much rather ExxonMobil or KerrMcGee get that profit than Hugo Chavez.
