crazy night - crashed both vehicles

Coming home from work last night in the wifes Jeep Liberty, pull onto the freeway, just get up to speed (about 110km/h) and a stolen honda civic decides to rearend a mini-cooper spinning it out of control into an tandem trailer semi truck before taking me out sending me into a wild spin. Everyone is fine, traffic is backed up forever, a couple more accidents involving semi's and cars happen right beside us mainly cause people are stupid and can't help but rubber neck.
So anyways, phone the wife, she brings my truck in (in a panic of course), gets within a few blocks of me, goes to change into a turning lane and a ford probe decides to duck in beside her as she is changing into that lane. She rubs out the car, there were a couple dents on the side of the car and a piece of red paint stuck to the front tire on my truck .
So anyways, I'll probably be left paying to fix the probe and our Liberty is likely an insurance write off.
I guess the only good thing is that I get to go vehicle shopping again.
My luck I'm hoping can only get better from here.

Glad eveyone was OK. That sucks man. How did you know the Civic was stolen. Did the cops tell you when they arrived at the accident scene?

Are you going to get another Jeep for the wifey?

Cops said the Civic was stolen, they found it abandoned about 1/2 mile up the road.

We will not be getting another jeep, we just had our second child last week and the Liberty just isn't big enough, looking at maybe a Nissan Murano, Mazda CX-9 or maybe an Edge.

I just heard from the kid with Probe, his estimate was $3700, the car is only worth $2k if hes lucky. What a joke.

Ouch! Insurance going to cover that? Normally he would have to get a quote from your insurance right? That way the guy can't just get a friend to write down an amount for brand new parts.

Congrats on being a new Daddy, again. I've got 2 kids, daughter is 3 and son is 1. We're going to be turning in the Mariner at the end of this year. I hear ya, the Mini SUVs are nice on fuel, but there is no room in them at all. We will be looking at an Edge and a Flex. I get X-plan through work.

$3,700 is BS. Call your insurance company and tell them to send an adjuster out survey the damage. There is no way they are going to let that fly if there were in fact "small dents" as a result of the accident.

My wife was rear ended in her Explorer, completely destoyed the read quarter panels, hatch back door and bent the frame. That estimate was just over $4K... I backed into a 2002 Gradn Prix and crushed in the front quarter panel also, the whole thing needed to be replaced. That was like $1,500... plus the Canadian dollar is equal to the US dollar now, there's no way that your wifes "brush" with the F150 caused that much damage.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

When it rains it pours man ...

On a side note, give the Edge a good chance before you rule it out. I hated them when they first came out but had one as a rental and actually liked it. Of course it was the overpopulated Orange color that everyone loves.

Here's the $3700 damage on the car, those are 35" toyo marks, I'm hoping he'll agree to some cash rather than going through insurance. The car is all faded and beat up. Fixing it seems rediculous to me.

As for the Edge, they seem ok, just seem a little more mini-vanish and lack some of the sporty features of some of the other crossovers, but we'll have to see.

Absolutely agree. This guy was on our side ... ...and I aleady thanked the big guy.

But I still have to deal with the reality of the after effects.

That is not $3,700 worth of damage. Besides, it's a Ford Probe, which means even if he had the newest Probe that was made, it's still 11 years old. They discontinued them in 97... I doubt the Blue book on it is $3,700 let alone the damage. He's probably only got PLPD on it too (if you have that in Canada), which means he's SOL. There's no way he's got full coverage on that thing. You should really talk to your agent. You might be surprised at what he's going to tell you. You can still run all this by him and not have him make a claim. I would suggest doing that.

Glad everyone's ok. And that is definately NOT $3,700 worth of damage. Ding Kind and some wet sanding will take that right out!

Def. take a look at the Edge. Had one for 2 weeks when i was in Florida on vaca and it's a nice "car". Handles well, has a good engine and plenty of room IMO in the back. My 3yo had plenty of room with her booster seat. Fit 3 full size suitcases in the back too, with room to spare.

If you would rather take care of the Probe without going through your insurance, have the owner bring you a repair estimate from 3 different body shops, AND multiple appraisals for the value of the car if repaired from legitimate sources such as a Ford dealer. Pay him the least of all these along with a fair amount for his time getting the estimates, that's all he would get out of an insurance company anyway.
