Anybody have any opinions on Taurus guns?
I think tomorrow I'm going to buy one. A gun shop by me has a really nice PT 24/7, .40 cal, with a case, 2 magazines, and a lifetime warranty for $289. It looks practically brand new.

Taurus is kinda hit and miss. If you get a good one, you'll get a pretty good one. If you get a bad one, it's gonna be a really, really bad one, a stinker, you may as well throw rocks 'cause you'll do the same or more damage.

If you buy a high end Taurus (model 92) then you will get a quality handgun, if you buy the low-end model then it will be like Quintin said - hit and miss. The model you are looking at is the low-end model. And those sell brand new here for $320 with sales about every other month for $290-$300

Are you looking for personal protection or just something to plink with?

If that all your doing then I would look at buying a 22 pistol. They are a heck of a lot of fun and really cheap to shoot. You can buy 500 rounds for under $10 compared to a 100 rounds of 9mm for $25 or 100 rounds of 40cal for $35 or $40. Two of my favorite 22 pistols are the Ruger MK II or III, and the browning Buckmark. Great pistols that have a lot of aftermarket accessories to sweeten them up. They can be highly addictive!!!

After reading this review I think I might give the Taurus 24/7 a try. It seems like a good deal to me. I know it's not the best, but I'm working on a very limited budget here. And it's not something I will be carrying, so I won't have to depend on it to save my life. And with that lifetime warranty if I ever do have a problem with it I know It'll be taken care of.

I think rimfire shooting is about as fun as it gets. You can shoot all day long and not spend much money. I think it's the best platform to learn great shooting skills from and have fun doing it. It also is a favorite for small game hunting.

Everybody that has shot a pistol is going to have their own opinion to this question. There are so many different options and considerations in picking the right firearm for you.
I have shot many different brands and calibers and I would suggest reading up a lot on some firearms forums and going to the gun stores to go hands on with many of them.
The .22LR is a great caliber for learning and just going out and shooting cans & paper all day for $10. It is not suitable for protection. I just bought my wife one. (walther p22). Low recoil to learn on.
My opinion the .40 S&W is the best all around caliber. It's in middle ground for round count, and recoil. I learned to shoot with a 9mm in the Army with a Beretta M9. Somebody mentioned them being crap, I totally disagree with that statement. The 9mm is not as accurate as the .40 IMO.

For the money / quality, I would look at the Springfields XD series and the Glocks. They are very comparable in almost every aspect. Both brands have a full size, compact, and sub-compact, to suit you best. I have a couple Glocks, but I just put a order in for a Springfield XD-40 Subcompact. I find that the handle is much more comfortable for me. Also Springfield has a promo going on right now that is offering a "gun gear" kit with purchase. I comes with 2 additional mags and a belt holster for free. Worth a look. All major gun stores will have both. Good luck in your decision.

I own a taurus 24/7 in 9mm and a PT145 they both have been good for me.when the 24/7's were first introduced they got a gun of the year title from some gun mag not shure witch one.

They were the first hand guns I have owned. Got them because they were in my price range the 24/7 holds 17 rounds and I have a light on it for home protection. The PT145 hold 10 rounds. I got for CC carry but for me it kicks to much (I think it's to short) with over 300 rounds through the 9mm not one jam same for the 45. Except I had some ww2 surplus it jamed every shell.

I also heard about them being hit or miss but always second hand never from an owner.. I would buy another...

That's good to hear. I think I'm going to buy it tomorrow. Then I have to wait 3 days (state law) to take it home. If I had my permit I could take it home tomorrow, but I've been dragging my *** on getting all the paperwork and stuff together. I already took the class though.

I'm sure there are some bad ones. Beretta was mass producing them like no other for the military. It's going to happen. I was on Ft. Campbell's SRT (swat) team for over 3 years and fired thousands and thousands of rounds out of the same M9 and it was great for me. That's with the cheap nato ball ammo as well. We also had some Sigs that worked good, but I remember the barrels had to be swapped out.
