Well an update... we had Service Master come by, and they cleaned and sanitized the carpet. They used some sort of high pressure steam system along with all sorts of chemicals.

I can tell you... the carpet smells brand new. I stuck my nose right to it in about 20 different places, and there is NO odor.

They told me that they only do it in certain circumstances and to only certain types of rugs. Mine qualified because it was commercial grade type indoor/outdoor carpet with a anti-microbial padding that is designed for moist areas.

I guess it paid off to get a heavy duty carpet!

The floor is so clean in that area I can eat off it, literally.

However, I ran into some other situations where the shower has been leaking for a long time too... didn't notice it until I took another section of drywall down that was stinkin'. So we need to pretty much redo the entire bathroom. Which is awesome, because I always wanted a new corner unit shower stall.

However the greenboard is decayed badly...and it STINKS. I started removing some of it... and I can notice a huge difference. We are also going to pull up the tile and redo that too, with a different color. So it's going to be a win-win situation for me. I can't wait!
