Cell Phone Compatibility

Is anyone on this website familiar with foreign cell phones working on our networks? Through my family I am trying to purchase a cell phone in Ireland, but I needed to make sure that it could work on our networks here.

So does anyone know if this phone would work on AT&T's network in Chicago?

The phone will work but you won't have 3G speed.

I didnt' check the link, but you need to make sure it is quad band. Most non-us phones do not include the 850mhz band, since they use 900MHz.
We also use 1900, whereas they use 1800. Most phones are at least tri-band (1800, 1900, and one of the lower ones). If you are limited to 1900 (because the other band is the euro 900), then your coverage outside metro areas may be limited.

its all the worlds coverage maps. It will work but if an area in your town doesn't have 1900 coverage which alot have moved on to 850 you'll be SOL for a phone

I dont know if you plan on switching companies. IE. using ireland generic tele then comming here and using at&t. You may need to get an unlock code for your phone to switch sim/smart cards. For best results, you could just call the carrier you are thinking of using and telling them you are a businessman and need a phone to work outside ireland, mainly USA, will such and such phone work?
