School Bus Drivers

I've been watching school bus drivers in the past 2 years, and they are pretty damn wreckless, and think they own the road. The reason I say this is because I see a lot of them driving the buses well beyond the posted speed limits, rolling stop signs, failing to use turn signals, etc.

I had this one cut me off a couple months ago, and I got out and I reported him to the bus garage because it put the kids at a substantial risk. Not to mention I notice a lot of them play tricks with their lights, and go straight to red flashing lights... no cautions. Which in NYS they are suppose to have them lit 10 seconds before switching to red lights.

And what the heck is it with these new fangled automatic buses?! When I was going to school, those buses were stick shift.

What is this freakin' world coming down to? Can't even let professional drivers around kids....

Just wait till you get kids and the school bus driver crashes the bus into something.

This past year the local school districts had 29 school bus related accidents. 27 of them were the school bus drivers fault.

More and more parents are choosing to drive their kids in. I don't blame them.

Just something I read in the local school information that our area school mails to us.

I know the guy who runs the local bus garage and also a couple of his drivers. The people he has working for him dont make any money and the hours are odd. He has to pay to get them a CDL. Noone wants the job. Alot of the people have the job just to say that welfare isnt there only income. There is no draw for responsible people to take this job. And yes all the buses are automatics. Obviously they are not all bad drivers, and some of them are good folks, But you know what they say about the 10%.

Around here, the State of Texas now requires a bus driver to have a commercial license, pass a background check, and be finger printed, all at the expense of the driver. The driver can't boot some little creep off of the bus for any reason, has no control over the kids at all, must be at work at 4 AM and some get thru at 8PM. All that fun and at $7.50 an hour for only the hours worked. And then you wanna complain about how they drive. The school districts have a shortage of drivers statewide because of poor working conditions and zero benefits. That's right, the school districts have no benefits. The full time employees pay for their own health insurance and etc thru the school system. Part time employees are not eligible for any of this. They get no vacation, no sick days, no bonus, no respect- just drive the bus stupid. Makes ya wanna go right and be one, doesn't it. I think cleaning septic tanks is a better job.

I had a female bus driver (I'm sure that had nothing to do with it ) stop and immediately turned on the red lights as I was driving by, and then honked the horn at me for going by when the lights were on. Some of them out here have the power trip because they can now report drivers who go when the lights are on, etc...

Thats how half the people on the road drive today. Most bus drivers dont have much experience before they start driving. Simply because, most people who have a commercial drivers license can make alot more money driving some thing else. A school bus transportation company has nothing to offer an employee.

As far as parents taking their kids to school because of "The Maniac Bus Driver", I think your exaggerating a bit.

The School bus is still the safest way for a kid to get to school. If your really worried about the kids safety, try following a bus and watch all the people who cut the bus driver off. Watch how many people pull out in front of him. But Im guessing you wont be making a post generalizing all the cars into one group. Its funny how when its a car that does it, its the driver of that car being an idiot. If a driver of a bus does it though, all bus drivers are idiots?

And seriously, who gives a rats potatoe if its an automatic?

A manual transmission does not prove ones man hood.

Besides with 60 screaming kids and the occasional spit wad/paper airplane, The last thing I want to think about is what gear Im in.

Around here the safety record is exemplary. We also underpay our drivers, but the best retention tool we've found is to mount cameras on all buses. Now when a bus driver says there's a problem with little Johnny, and the parent says no, not my angel, we just sit down and run them the tape. Amazing how many parents drag little Johnny out the door without another word.

Same reason why On-highway trucks are moving to automatics. . . cost. No driver error with an auto, unless they nuetral bomb it.
