I wasn't pointing too much at the transmission guys. I was hesitant to add it. But that's something I shouldn't have said.

However, I can agree it is somewhat still safe to be riding a school bus. Then again, from what I've viewed it has been kind of mismatch for me.

I understand being a bus driver is one of the undelightful jobs out there... but someone needs to get it done.

What I am trying to get at is merely the fact that these bus drivers should be VERY careful driving the buses with kids on them, and to be more alert to their surroundings.

I mean what is the extra 2 seconds to stop and make sure no one is coming?! It could mean life or death to a bunch of kids.

It's no joke when you see some bus driver trying to get the job done quick, and make a fatal mistake that could devastate others royally.

I agree manual. The other day, comming home from PT to shower and change. There was a school bus in the very middle of the road with only yellow lights on. I sat behind it thinking maybe this idiot would move up to let me turn or they would turn on the red lights or go straight. Nope.. just sat there literally 10 minutes yellow lights with cars pilling up. Not to mention I have a formation to get to in 50 minutes. So, after ten minutes she puts on the red lights and little stop sign. I was so pissed. In my opinion I think they think they own the road. I think you are right.

I seen I assume the same bus do a rolling stop at a 2 way the crosses a little urban road. I was thinking if thats that pos driver again I will fkin smack her.

I agree, the tranny had nothing to do with it, but wtf right. drink beer.

what concerns me most is that most school buses have no seat belts.

the same government that harasses us with seatbelt laws suddenly doesn't care when they have to pay to install them.

Speaking of that... my school bus driver always made sure smaller kids had their seatbelts on, so if there was an accident, they wouldn't fly around. But the older buses had them. The new ones don't!

But I've gotta agree, if you are riding a bus, a seatbelt should be required.

Also, I can't believe I forgot about how many times I've seen drivers chit-chatting on their cell phones while driving! I mean what's up with that?!

Yet, when it comes down to us, we'd get a ticket for both.

Fairly common practice, get paid for the hours you work.

That's right, the school districts have no benefits. The full time employees pay for their own health insurance and etc thru the school system. Part time employees are not eligible for any of this. They get no vacation, no sick days, no bonus, no respect- just drive the bus stupid.
Sounds like every other part time job out there.

New busses around here all still have seatbelts.

I had this one cut me off a couple months ago, and I got out and I reported him to the bus garage because it put the kids at a substantial risk. Not to mention I notice a lot of them play tricks with their lights, and go straight to red flashing lights... no cautions. Which in NYS they are suppose to have them lit 10 seconds before switching to red lights.

And what the heck is it with these new fangled automatic buses?! When I was going to school, those buses were stick shift.

What is this freakin' world coming down to? Can't even let professional drivers around kids....

ROFLMAO.... I saw you posted this.. and thought to myself.. I will make a comment that you must think it is because the busses have auto trannies..... and I didn't get a chance to say that.... YOU DID IT FOR ME!! Wow your predictable. Dang... get over it already with the autos.

I had really nice bus drivers. They were very skilled and professional. I do live in Fairfax County though

school bus drivers, one of the top twenty thankless jobs.
They are on tight time contstraints, some of them are running several routes that are dependent on precise timing.
The new buses handle and drive like cars, so that explains some of how "wreckless" they appear from the outside.
Interesting topic though.

When I was in elementary school, the bus driver lived two houses down. The bus was broke down a lot and we would get this old 58 ford bluebird, we all had to push it sometimes to get it started. The bus driver used to yell ALOT, one time she pulled off the soft shoulder to YELL, and the bus slid on the GA red clay on into the ditch, We all found out what the emergency door was really for that day..aahh memories
She would love the new buses with PA, CD players, Air conditioning, Allison automatics, turbo diesels, tinted windows, GPS tracking, hot line to Sheriff office, strobe lights, bumper gates, convex mirrors, cameras, radial tires, power steering, huge sway bars, smart brakes... the list goes on... the students get worse.

The school bus drivers down here suck, but not as much as the substitute teachers. Those people, they are just jokes.
