yea, if you are fortunate enough to have the litle black zip book that comes with the truck when you buy it new (usually in the glove box), there should be a card with a "default" pin number on it. i was like you and found this card. you are also supposed to be a able to program your own, if your smart enough...if you don't have that, supposedly, somewhere on the back wall on the driver side is a little plaque or something that has it on there too....maybe someone will chime in and be more specific...also, you could try to search for it by using the search query on the home page on hte lower right....

that sounds about right for the key....i think you can get it cheaper somewhere else, but at least its guaranteed to work if they give it you...also, that is prolly quoted for key only, and not for the additional car alarm remote...

Sounds about right. Blank, uncut keys can be purchased on eBay for around 10.00 then you need to get them cut. This will let you lock/unlock the doors and tailgate. But in order to start the truck, you need to get it programmed.
To program a key on your own, you need two keys already programmed in order to program a third. Dealer's seem to exploit this because they know that if you don't have two programmed keys its impossible for you to get a key to start your truck unless you get them to program it.

The security code for your truck is located behind the back seat on the drivers side. There is a sticker on the VSM (Vehicle Security Module), on that sticker there will be a 5 digit code. Once you get that code, that is the master code for the vehicle and you can then set your own personal code.

Hope that helps.. Any questions send me a PM, i tackled this about 2 months ago or so..

The key is expensive but you should get one for a spare. Then get a blank cut and program a third one yourself so even if you lose one you still have two to program another.

Any idea what it costs if you only have one key and lose it? Can they cut one by the VIN and then program it?

I emailed you back.. You should have all the info you need to complete the back seat removal and get your security code off your VSM sticker

Not hard just time consuming.

2 steps.

1) Remove the hard plastic cover that covers the seat belt by prying off the top panel and removing the fasteners.

2) There are 2 clips that anchor the seat backrest to the bottom. These are located toward the outer edges of the seat. you can access them by putting your hand in the crevice where the backrest and bottom meet.

In this picture you can see the black box on the right with the white label that contains your code. You can also see the two black clips (just barely) that are a PIA to get to in order to release the backrest.

We had to have two new keys for a Ranger here at work. For both PATS keys, it was over 250 bucks.
