Good luck in basic, keep your head on straight and don't let the little things bother you. Steer clear of all the whiners, they will just drag you down. Don't loan out anything that you expect to get back.

The rest of your civilian possessions are locked away and you get them back when you PCS to your AIT.

To the OP, basic training is easy, just keep on truckin. I shot 39/40 in BRM, which was quite easy even with my jacked up eyes. Don't worry, you'll be spending lots of time on your elbows. Oh, and don't ever call the bivouac "camping" like the female in our platoon did. That was funny.

Everything I owned was locked up in supply. First they dumped it all out on the sidewalk, then we had to go through it all, and if it wasn't hygiene related, it was taken away. But I have heard that things have changed a little. Get a good quality pair of running shoes and some athletic socks. You'll need those for PT. Pretty much everything else you need will be given to you by Uncle Sam.
And just remember, it's a mind game. Keep your head on straight and your wits about you and it will be over before you know it.

You got to keep stuff? When I went to Marine boot camp they even took our underwear and locked it up. If you needed, it was issued to you. If you didn't need it, it got locked up.
Cancel your cell phone, no sense in paying for it while you've got it locked up. Ask your recruiter for a list of allowable items. No sense in getting in trouble right from the start. I remember we were told to bring no more than $10 in cash. Some dude showed up with nearly $300 in cash. Man did he get a butt chewing right from the start.
I can give you all you need to know about boot camp in one word. Blend.
