Would you keep the pet?

What a burdensome and strenuous decision that mother must have gone through before she sided....

My pet or my child... Hmmm...

Read the entire article and tell me what your decision would have been.

That dog would have 4 180 grain 30-06 shells in him. Period.

It happened once, it will happen again.

Babies are found in dumpsters, abortion clinics are all over the place.... sadly this does not shock me. Human life does not have the value it once did, & should

Ok, the dog mauled the kid? No, the dog snapped at the kid in defense when the kid hurt it. Kind of a tough decision though because it's not like it was an unprovoked attack, in which case I would be all for getting rid of the dog. The child was warned not to do it but kept it up. It might sound callous but that's a tough lesson to learn.

Here's another few perspectives to take on it though. Say it's your kid and someone elses dog. What's your feeling then.

Or...Say your neighbors kid comes over and yanks on your dogs ear and it snaps at him. This wouldn't be a case of some dog breaking free and attacking a kid on the street, we are talking a simple reaction from your dog to the aggression of a kid.

Just food for thought.

One other thing...this is another example of the press using sensationalism to sell their point. Boy badly mauled. There was blood everywhere. Deep cuts and scratches. A range of painful injuries. Horribly scarred (wait..we can tell the scars already?), lucky to have sight in his left eye. Luckiest boy alive.

Yet read the facts. Basically he was treated by the EMT's at the scene. Nowhere does it say he was hospitalized which is what would have happened if he'd have needed eve one stitch. The picture looks bad, but I've had tiny cuts bleed a heck of a lot and look worse than they were.

I'd be willing to bet that the media is doing what they do best and blowing this situation way out of proportion.

I can guarentee that kid will never annoy the dog again. But if the kid hadnt tugged on its ears repeatedly, it wouldnt have happened. If the dog had kept biting and attacking, it should have been put down, but it didnt. The kid learned a hard lesson.

I have to agree.

People always blame the animal if the dog was being tormented and acted on that then it is the kids fault/parents fault for not teaching them any better. If it was unprovoked then the dog should be dealt with.

Yeah! Another voice from Trailer Trash Park...

The kids two! Obviously, you know nothing about kids...

Please have a vascectomy performed ASAP, and please, please always wear a rubber. Not for your protection...but for ours!

I guess my thoughts are simply that the child is too young to really understand what potential harm his actions could bring to him. All kids are stupid, most teenagers are also & the job of a parent is to save them from themselves until they are capable of understanding the potential harm certian actions can bring to them. If the mother does not want to intervene and protect her child from this dog then the dog needs to go. I grew up with labs and we have pictures of me hanging all over them. My mom said when I was too young to walk I would grab the dogs tail and the dog would slowly walk with me while I held my balance. Never once was I so much as growled at even though tI know the dogs probably didn't enjoy this. In this case the dogs life was not threatened and IMO it was not provoked enough to warrant such an attack

Thanks for the mature response. Nice to know we can have a conversation without resorting to name calling.

I have a Golden, and a 15 month old. Never had a problem, never will.

When will trailer trash ever learn that aggressive breeds are not tolerant of children. Its always some slack jawed uneducated yokel that is surprised his pit attacked his kids...

I warn everyone that my dog is a 5lb killing MACHINE, everyone has to sign a waiver to even step foot in my place. Here is a picture, see the thirst for blood in his eyes?
