keeping the dog off the couch?
My husbands dog was used to being on furniture from before we had him (rescuded dog). He would do the same thing, jump up on the couch when we weren't around. I just took the pillows that normally sit in the corners of the couch and spread them out along the edge of the cusions when we went to bed or left the house. Now he doesn't even try and I no longer have to put the pillows there.
As for the Invisible fence it works to an extent. My black lab wont go near the boundry, but my chocolate lab constantly runs through it. I will bring him back through making sure to shock him and he doesnt care.

I would also say try mouse traps, but not the wood/wire kind. I bought some to train my cat. Worked quite well. These are plastic traps that I wear would not hurt the mouse or even hold him, but worked well enough on the cat. Never hurt him, just scared the heck out of him.
They are called the better mouse trap by Intruder, Inc.

They make a little battery powered box that has a mercury switch in it. You can have it record your voice yelling "Spot, NO!!!" and set it on the bed. When it detects him jumping up it yells at him and he gets off. Harmless and effective.
I've seen them at Pet Smart....

I know some animals have an aversion to moth *****. And no, I'm not just thinking about moths. You can keep deer out of your garden with them. It may work w/ a dog.
Just don't let the dog eat them. Ingestion of any kind will be bad. So, on second thought, you are a NOGO at this station.

my dog would prob just stare at it turning its head at the funny noise
We had the same issue with our 90 lb Lab. When we were at work or out for dinner, he would sleep on one of the sofas. I have had great results with the vinyl carpet runner. I purchased a roll at Home Depot, cut it to size, and layed it upside down (spikes facing up) on each couch. I used these daily for the first month, and now just use them occasionaly. If I notice his hair on the couch, I will put them on every day for about a week, then lax a little again. He rarely gets on them anymore.
Also note that Invisible Fence supposedly makes products to do exactly what you want... I'd imagine it would not be very expensive if you buy the outdoor system, since you would already have the collars.
