Sony CyberShots good for starters?

I really don't take many pictures but I guess on my days off when I go fishing I could possibly start taking pictures of nature and stuff. My dad has a Kodak P850, it's alright. I also want a camera where I can park the truck somewhere and take a shot with the shutter open for a long time and get all the cool lines running across. I was thinking about buying a sony cybershot, what do you all think or recommend. I'm looking at spending about 350 dollars on a camera. I think the pawn shops around my place here has some good cameras for real cheap. My brother knows a thing or two about cameras. He has a cybershot, what are your thoughts.

Thumbs down

I've had a couple Cybershots. Both had problems after a year or two. I probably won't buy a Sony camera again.

I've have a Sony Cybershot V-707 from the day it was released. I paid a cool $1000 which was every penny of my tax return that year. A very solid camera and takes fantastic pictures. I can't vouch for the current models though. But I do plan on getting a new Cannon Digital Rebel 10mp in a couple months.

Take better care of your camera.

I've had a Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 to just take "normal" pictures. I've had it for a while with no problems. My girlfriend has the same camera and has even spilled a drink on it, still works with no problems. I do love my Nikon D40X though.

I got the DSC-S500 for christmas last year in and over the span of 2 years its survived a 20-foot drop into cement (only lite scratched on the side) and a total submersion in a pool for a good 2 minutes (my 2 year old cousin though it was a water toy before i realised it was my camera)

good pics. Every picture you see in my gallery was taken by my Sony. great camera for starters.

would def. buy it again, but i'll be moving up to a 10MP professional-series Nikon or Canon next.
