Canadian trying to buy a US truck - Help!

I am trying to buy a new loaded 07 Lincoln Mark LT in the US. US prices are thousands less and with all the incentives being offered on LT's I could save close to 10 g's compared to Canada even after shipping, brokerage fees, etc.

Problem is that the incentives are tied to where you live and as a Canuck I am out of luck. Even if I had a buddy or relative living in the US who could buy it and then resell to me, I would still be on the hook for state tax.

Any creative ideas on how to get around this or should I suck it up and go negotitate on a 57000 MSRP (gulp!) Mark LT in Canada?

I've brought back two vehicles from the US. Most recently my 2000 F150. Because they have both been pre-owned, the title was faxed to the border crossing I was using at least 72 hours prior to your arrival. Check their hours of operation. I believe the only 24/7 crossing accepting imported autos is the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron MI/ Sarnia Ont. Maybe there are greater extended hours now that more Canadians are importing more. But, I don't know how the title transfer works on a new vehicle. You'll pay nothing at the US side, just a rubber stamp from our friendly US Custom's agents, but the fun begins on the Cdn. side. You'll pay GST, $100 excise on the A/C and $195 for the paperwork. The RIV (Registrar for Imported Vehicles) will send you the semi-final paperwork in about 2 weeks...at which time you'll need to get what ever needs to be done. In my cases, daytime running lights are needed. It's a $35 part with $35 labour by Canadian Tire. I don't think any duty is due.

As for the deal on the price, beat the Canadian Dealer to a pulp first.

Plus you will have to get an Out Of Country Safety Inspection and when that's done you will probably have to get an Out Of Province inspection. This is before you can register it in Alberta. As far as I know, Crappy Tire is the only place that is licensed to do an Out Of Country Inspection. Any other shop that is licensed to do MVI inspections on passenger vehicles can do the Out Of Province.
Remember you MUST get a copy of the title to whatever border crossing you're going through 72 hours before you plan on bringing it across. If I was you I would call the border crossing way ahead of time and confirm exactly what you need to do. You don't want to get there and not be prepared. Especially if you're going to cross in Coutts. That's one of the most **** border crossings around.
