Google Maps: (Street View)

If you live in (or near) a major metropolitan area, go to Google Maps, and type in your (or your neighbor's if you're worried) street address. Then click on "Street View" and you can actually see your house, in full color, from street level.

Some one actually drove by, and filmed your house.

A few months ago, I saw two cars on 75, one was a copper Dodge Viper (You can't miss a Viper) with this sophisticated camera system mounted to his dash). The car ahead of him (POS) had one too.

I just assumed it was some rich kid, and his broke friend, out either filming how fast the Viper was, or getting live footage to create a video game.

I bet those guys worked for google, and was out driving the DFW Metroplex, so this street view coudl work on the map.

They got my house recently, because I just put that new mailbox out there, not too long ago (Last 120 days).

Pop in your address, and see what you see. I know it's working for Dallas/Fort Worth and the San Francisco Bay Area.

If you're rural- it no worky for you.

I can't do the street view here in Little Rock, but I did notice that the satellite view is much clearer than it was previously.

Yeah, Google Earth is pretty neat. I used it to find my old Kaserne (Hindenberg Kaserne) in Wurzburg, Germany. Although there are no soldiers there now, the buildings (except the old empty building- that was empty 20 years ago) still remain.

I looked at the Bridges alongside the Rhein River (Freedom, Zell, and Saints) that we used to jog to, doing PT.

Those were the good old days...

It won't load on my PC anymore.

That's pretty neat. I looked at the area I used to live in in DFW and it's pretty cool. Odd some of the cities that haven't been done. One would have thought that D.C. would be done, but no. Yet tiny Melbourne Fl where I used to live has some streets on it.

It's been out since at least August. I guess it's just now getting in the news?

pretty cool feature. seems the entire world is going digital. on the news this evening they were reporting on a new technology that could take the photos from millions of tourist from various points of view and create 3D renderings of famous landmarks, buildings, etc that could be imported into maps.

Vacation photos create 3D models of world landmarks

I love Google Earth! My wife and I are looking for a new house in a different city and we look through realtor.com to find one we like, then google earth it to see the overhead and if available street view. It is a little creepy, but most county's auditor's websites already had ariel or satelite imagery available through their real estate search function. You can look up sales and floor plans on most counties. The internet is great!

Microsoft Maps has a feature where you can look at your house, any house in the world from north, east, south or west view, they are images of your house at a 45 deg angle or so. This is very neat though. I cannot imagine the work that goes into digitalizing a map, there are even graphic artists I believe who outline the buildings in major cities like SF if you zoom in, you can see every ridge on the building. I wonder how that process is handled.

Well my house will probably never be on there, I live too far out in the sticks and it's private property to boot. The can't just come up my driveway and start snapping pictures of my house and you can't see my house from the road. Doesn't hurt my feelings, it's a bit creepy thinking someone out there is randomly taking pictures of your house without telling you what they're up to!

Yep, that's why this became a story on the local news.

I can't do a street view at my location, but I will say that Google maps is wrong with the location of my address.

They must have the house numbers reversed or something, because I am the first house on the right, and they have me as the last house on the right.
