When telemarketers call me at home, I ask them to give me their home number, and that I will call them back later...

Saw it on Seinfeld.

Is Franko the new Dave?

I love critiqing there sales pitches, but if they call, leave them on hold for a while, thats even worse because it wastes there time and they can't go straight to another call. That pissed me off even more that getting hung up on.

True, but there is no loyalty in the sales biz. Your only as good as your last performance numbers. The first time they dip you're put on probation. Two consecutive bad reviews and you're unemployed.

The jobs that have the best job security often pay far less than the risker, yet more profitable ones.

If they're making 6 figures without a degree, that is phenominal. Good for them. A 4 year BA is required where I work.

Sales is definately an aquired taste. Not just anyone can do it. And yes, there is very little security as someone mentioned earlier.

Technically I'm a telemarker but not really. I only sell to businesses and I sell Tax and Accounting software. My sales cycles are roughly 2 weeks to 3 months long and usually involve C-level execs. But all my sales are made over the phone, not face to face.

And for those that didn't know, you can always elect not to receive telemarketing calls on your cell and home phone:

I searched the same website using my career and it is off by about 40%, so I would say that is not a very good indicator of salaries.

Monster shows $34k as average for telemarketer for Detroit. I am surprised it's even that high.

I hear ya, that's why I won't do B2C and stick with B2B. It is a lot easier to convince someone to spend someone else's money than their own.

Glengarry Glenn Ross is also another great one for you sales guys. Alec Baldwin's 5 minute "sales speach" is one for the books. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to rip into low performers on my team like he does.

This clip is a MUST see. Warning: NSFW & could easily offend the frail...
