Company parties/functions/picnics - Do you go?

The company Christmas party is this weekend, and I'm really not feeling it. I went last year only because I was getting a five year award, and our department manager was freaking out because there was only like two or three people in the whole department that was coming. I hang around them ten hours a day, five or six days a week, honestly I don't really wanna drink beers and act like we're buddies one Saturday night a year.

Years before, it was a pretty lame affair, with lousy/cold food, no alcohol, and a boring speaker that'd put the whole room down in about 15 minutes. It's since improved a lot, no more speakers, live band, open bar, decent food, but now they book it at a place that's a lot smaller than the place they used back then, and everyone's pretty much crammed in like sardines in this place, but it is very nice.

So what about y'all?

If I went to every function it would total at least 6 or 7. I'm just not into hanging around crowds. I usually go and make the appearance, and leave before the drunks start to get loud and stupid.

I go to, or at least try to, every event we have. The guys I work with are my friends. We were going to have a Christmas Party, but it was cancelled.

My biggest qualm is the whole thing is kinda forced upon us. They hand out our Christmas bonuses at the Christmas dinner now, to try to get more people to show up. If I don't show, I'll still get my bonus the following Monday along with a guilt trip about what a great get-together I missed. I'm not big into crowds myself either. Last year when I went, I stayed long enough to get my award, my bonus, drink a couple beers and hauled ***. Management got pissed because a bunch of other guys did the same, stayed just long enough to get their checks and left.

If it's really that lame, then just deal with the so-called guilt trip they're trying to lay on you and collect your check on Monday.

I don't go, I have to work most of the time anyway, so if I'm off on that day, I really don't want to hang around people from work. There are some good prizes/gift certificates at the Christmas party, luckly "you need not be present to win!"

Everyone just gets extremely drunk at ours. I guess they're all right I am good friends with all of them and we drink together alot. So basically the only difference is we are doing it in public which includes more risk. We had the GM and manager over playin beer pong the other night and kicked their asses. They're claiming we cheated and want a rematch. We'll see!

My old job I'd worked there for several years and was really good friends with them. Heck, we still hang out and talk even though I haven't worked there in a year and a half. I always went to the Christmas parties. Small company so it was close.

I'm working for a big company now and we hang out occasionally having a beer at the local sports bar. I don't think I'd go to a Christmas party though, didn't go last year.

No.

Nothing good can come from attending.

Think about it.

Just got back from a Christmas party for my wife's work. It was BORING!!!! Lots of weird people to make fun of though. Mainly older folks at this one. In a couple of weeks we have the "younger" party at The Fox and Hound. Should end up with some drunkards showing their *****. That one could get interesting!!

I usually never go, but I went this year. I have been in the field at a construction site for the last year and wanted to catch up with what was going on in the office.

What I absolutely hate about our Christmas party is that every year the upper management all sits at one table and basically never talks or mingles with anyone else. We generally have only 4-5 tables. If you try to strike up a convesation with them, they end it quickly as to snub you. This drives me crazy, the upper management is unapprochable.

This is how the office management operates year round. Should'nt management interact with thier subordinates to manage them more effectively?

Guess I will not go next year.
