Son of a biiiiiiittttcccccch

This crappy cold kansas weather cracked my windshield. $275 to replace. I have USAA and I figured being I have a maxed out policy (full coverage to the highest they offer), they would cover it. So I call and they tell me if the crack is under a dollar bill size, no deduct, if it's bigger full deduct. I'm like.. miss that doesnt make any sense, who would pay 500 bucks to replace 275 bucks? Pisses me off an insurance company made for soldiers by soldiers is so ****ty. Mans nature to fuuuk everything though right?

Isn't this the truth... a tree branch fell on my old camaro 1.5 yrs ago in a storm, pretty much just cracking the windshield (and scuffing the paint a little) so I called the insurance co. and was astounded at the price.... $500 deduct for that?!? Called a local glass place and in 2 hrs it was good as new and the guy had $150 cash in his pocket. F#%$(#*()_#&ing insurance companies... I could go on about homeowners insurance after all teh flooding we had in August but I'll wait for another time...

On edit: I carry full on all vehicles I have owned or do owned. Pfffft like that means crap in situations like this...

It depends upon your comprehensive deductible. I carry $0 on comprehensive. As many windshields as I have had to replace (3 on 1 truck alone), it has been worth it.

The first time it cracked it was around 20 degrees. Then, it cracked again around 32 or so. I am pretty sure it cracked due to the heat inside hitting the cold glass. I mean the truck is 7 years old. It's been good to me, if all it takes is a few oil changes and to replace the windshield, I guess I should call myself a lucky man. Better than a failing tranny, or diff, or knock, etc. I bet chevy windows dont crack damn it. Haha.

I guess I'll just break the other windows too, so it equals a few grand. That way I'll get 6 new windows for 500 bucks ! J/k F-em. I'll pay the 275, get my new window.

I've got USAA also. Best insurance on the planet. I think they have a separate glass coverage policy like I have on my computers with my home owners insurance. A few dollars more for 0 deductible.

But I could be wrong on the glass.

I am currently looking at my policy. I have comprehensive, and this is what USAA states.

Comprehensive coverage pays to repair your vehicle for damage caused by something other than a car accident. Examples include fire, theft, vandalism, damage by a bird or animal and glass breakage.
Example:
Your car is vandalized, and it will cost $5,000 to repair your vehicle. If you have a $500 deductible, you would receive a check for $4,500 for repairs.
Things you should consider:
To lower your premium on this coverage, choose a higher deductible.

Note: The policy contract details this coverage to include any conditions and exclusions.
That shows you by the quote that there is no seperate policy for glass. But whos damn glass repair costs 5 grand? I agree USAA is great hen it comes to getting tickets, accidents etc. They are quick to help, and your rates usually dont go near as high as other insurances for at fault situations.

I searched all over USAA members and google site looking for a "glass or windshield policy". I even went to edit my policy to see if that was an extra paid option. It however of course didnt exist. I know what you mean. My dad has farm bureau and for 3$ extra a month for glass/window coverage. However, USAA does not offer this.

Like I said, I was told dollar size or smaller, its covered. Otherwise it's your deduct.

I have USAA as well. Best insurance around. A broken window on any of my 3 full coverage vehicles cost me a $200 deductible. Glass is different than a collision deductible.

I can't wait to get my USAA dividend check.

Have USAA also, and will agree it is the best I have had. Never claimed a windshield, and have gone thru a few of them over the years, so I don't know how they work that. I do know that when my truck got keyed at 3 months old, they were great to work with and gave me the option of their shop or using one of my choosing.

Here in Florida there is no deductible on a windshield. They do not want any one driving around on a cracked windshield even if you are from the ghetto. So Ins. co. foots the whole bill.

Talk to them again. I have USAA. When I had a cracked windshield, longer than a dollar bill. They said if I used thier recommended vender that I would not have to pay my deductable. I live in Ca. that might make a difference.

I have usaa with full coverage and only $100 deductible.
I know they fix stone chips for free but haven't needed to replace a window yet.
