I hated to see him leave LSU last season, but I'm fairly confident that Bobby Bowden had a big hand in picking him, with the thought of him being a good successor when he leaves. I think LSU will also be losing Bo Pellini this season. He is more than due for a head coaching job, given what's he's done with the defenses at LSU.

And Les is done. He'll not be back next year. And it's only Michigan he's after. No NU or Texas A&M for him. Why would he step back like that? Nebraska and A&M are crap compared to where LSU is right now. But, all of his family ties are in MI, so he'll be going there.

He is a dumbass if he goes too. how do you leave a job with all that upside to go to another job. I know its Michigan and he has ties but still, its stupid IMO. And I hope Bo stays, I'd hate to see him go. It's amazing how LSU loses coach after coach and is a successful team year in and year out.

Never discount the fact that his wife's family is all from Michigan! A twist on the "Momma's call" that even coaches like Bear Bryant made. I just hope he doesn't draw out the questioning by not really giving an answer.

That said, I wish the damned media would stay out of it until either Michigan offers it publicly, or Les says he's taking himself out of the running. Too often the media ends up making the process more of a circus than it ever should be. Les is at LSU now, and until the end of the year, he's under contract with them, and them only. For Michigan even to put out feelers to friends of friends is in poor taste.

Well, I'd say A&M is crap...

I do not see Les coming to NU. Bo, hopefully. We need a defense like the French needed the USA in WWI & WWII.

I don't think Bo will come after he was passed over the first time. And Les is gonna take it, otherwise he would have said he wasn't interested from day one and to ake his name out the running.

Michigan is Les' dream job. It is the only job he has ever given a crap about having. He will work hard to get it, and will take it if it is offered to him. The only reason he took the LSU job was because he sees it as a bigger stepping stone to get him to the big house

It is also a better job than LSU. More history and tradition, larger alumni base, $200 million stadium renovation ongoing, and a hell of a lot easier conference to play in.

Les will probably not leave LSU for NU, but if he gets run out of Baton Rouge for pursuing the MU job, (if he isn't offered the job in Ann Arbor) NU is his primary fall back plan, and his people have reached out to Lincoln to let them know there is some interest on his side.

One of the things about Miles' situation that a lot of people might not understand is the Kathy HATES living in LA. She absolutely despises raising her children there and living there, and if she perceives that Les has a chance to leave, she might put a ton of pressure on him to change jobs.

I think at this point, there is less than a 20% chance that Les is still at LSU next year.

The question is who does LSU get to replace him?

Well I would not be surprised to see Fran at SMU and Callahan taking the Baylor job for the paycheck. Butch Davis was in the running for the TAMU job, but he just got a raise at N.C. so I'm guessing that included a contract extension. Peterson is my favorite right now for TAMU, and I would like to see Spurrier take intrest in our open position. What about Mike Belotti from Oregon? I think he is a great coach that is currently underpaid. I would look for him to make a move soon. Les Miles is already drooling at the Michigan job.

That is a good question .. Would they go for a current HC somewhere, or an assistant that has ties to LSU?

My first thought would be Jimbo, but not sure if that is a big enough splash for them.

I would be suprised if Fran gets a job this year. Not until the NCAA says they are done looking at the email issues, plus Fran will want that to die down a bit, before he looks again. Because of the NCAA factor, there is ZERO chance he gets the SMU job. I can't imagine the SMU AD would be stupid enough to do that.

Callahan doesn't need the paycheck. He had just signed a 5 year extension. I would expect to see him back in the NFL as an OC somewhere.

Petersen is a definate candidate for aTm, but his name just popped up lately, and I have been hearing Sherman and Butch Davis for almost 6 weeks, along with Davie. At this point I think it is Sherman, then Davie and Petersen down the list a little.

Butch is probably the leading guy for the Arkansas job, if they run Nutt out of town. The Big $$ donors want to make a run at Jimmy Johnson, but I just don't see him leaving South Florida (but I do know that he didn't laugh them out of the room when it was suggested to him.). Arkansas wants a guy with ties there, and Butch is far and away the highest profile candidate that is still actively coaching. If JJ or Davis doesn't take the job, look for Arkansas to go after Kragthorpe hard.

another possibility for Baylor/SMU is Paul Johnson of Navy.

Bo was passed over the first time, but that was because the previous A.D. was a *****. Now that T.O. is in charge, Bo, if he wants it, will get a fair shake.

Callahan is headed back to the NFL as an O.C. He may be great with the offensive Xs and Os, but he sucks as the head man in charge.

I still stand by my comments in the "LSU Sucks" thread. Les Miles is out at LSU on his own volition.
I guess another coach got "Croomed"

Well, I heard on Fox News on the way home that Chan Gailey's days at Tech are done.
