Stuffing Or Dressing
Stuffing Or Dressing
I had a "discussion" with a friend of mine about Thanksgiving dinner. In my neck of the woods, we call the STUFF that you STUFF in a turkey, STUFFing.
Hence the word STUFFING. My friend calls it dressing.
Of course it doesn't have to be made inside the turkey, but it tastes better that way. So what do you call it? Stuffing (correct) or dressing (incorrect)?
Also, what is your favorite stuffing/dressing? Mine is the meat stuffing.

Your friend is correct, it's dressing, not stuffing.
Besides, stuffing is a dicey proposition...if the bird's cooked long enough to cook the stuffing all the way through, the meat dries out, you may as well be eating cardboard. If it's not cooked long enough, fun and exciting things like salmonella and food poisoning may be in your future.

Have to disagree. Dress refers to the outside, not the inside.

Stuff naturally refers to the inside.
And you can cook turkey with it stuffed and not end up with dry meat. Especially if you are like me and really only like the white meat.Just cook the breast, stuffed. Still get that good flavor of stuffing cooked in the bird and it is not dry as the covering over the stuffing, whether foil or skin, is very thin.

BTW, if you slow cook the bird, at low temps, there is no chance of the stuffing not being done and the bird is always "moist and juicy"....
And I use both dressing and stuffing. Stuffing while I'm cooking and dressing while I'm eating.

By dressing, I'm assuming you mean gravy?
