Josiah, you should never let pictures like these discourage you from riding, as long as every time you get on that bike you realize that you now are carrying your life in YOUR own hands. Be aware and alert 100% of the time! And always drive for the other person not just for your self. Don't be stupid and use some common sense, theres a time and place for everything. I never wear full riding gear, but that's a decision that I chose, I only wear a Full Face Helmet, Riding Gloves and a Riding Jacket.

Well stated. And that is pretty much "full gear" around here. Long denim pants, full face helmet, gloves, jacket, and closed toe leather (preferably) shoes. Sure, if I go down, I'm gonna be getting some road rash on my *** and nether regions, but its better than wearing shorts and sandals and having much more serious issues.

Ride like everyone is out to get you, like you're invisible. Because, truthfully, you are. People don't see you, they're too trained to look for a metal box on 4 wheels, and even then there are still accidents that happen.

Damn, that's pretty scary. I'd love to get a bike but my fiance won't let me, and I'm a little scared of them. My little borther has one, and it seems that he's losing a friend every couple of months due to motorcycle accidents. I know about 4 people that I went to school with who have died too. And he still rides that damn thing. I know he rides safe, but it's not him I worry about, it's all the other people out there.

Maybe it is because if either they or a car runs a red light the first lane of traffic to get thru is coming at them from the left, after they pass that test they have to deal with traffic coming from the right. That is my best guess anyway.

I got an old Honda dirt bike (1976 XL-350) I bounce thru the country on once in awhile. No pavement for me, I get hurt enough on the dirt.

I don't yet, that is why I'm asking and hoping for answer(s) from the weekend warriors that choose to wear them, against the reasons that the full timers swear against them. So far it looks like the week end warriors reason to wear them is like ricers putting wings on thier front wheel drive cars and adding decals...... They think it looks cool and thats what everyone else they know is doing.

I agree with the if it's my time to go it aint going to matter... Thats the foundation of why I do have the crazy carelees stupid stuff that I am guilty of.
