need help convincing....

i need help convincing my dad on a decision he is making.

he is in the market for a new truck, and is deciding between a F150 and f250 6.4L. i have tried so hard to convince him to get the PSD, and hes thought about it. the only thing holding him back is he likes that the F150 has a deeper bed, so he can fit more firewood in it. ive told him that the F150 is a slug, and the 6.4 is a beast. Te f250 is just a better truck, but hes so set on the bed size.

he is picking between a F150 SuperCrew 6.5 bed 4x4, or a SuperDuty Crew 6.5 bed F250 4x4.

What else should i do to try and convince him?

Personally I place boards or sticks down inside the bed standing up on end so I can stack my firewood cab high or a little higher.

Does he tow alot?
Why do you think he needs the F250 much less the SD?
The 150 is going to be easier to drive in traffic and parking lots, have a better more comfortable ride and be slightly cheaper on gas (like it matters neither are great on gas).

The F250 tows more......

not much towing, but a lot of hauling, and at elevation and climbing. My F150, the truck he used to use for this, was a slug going uphill with a load @ 4000 ft elevation, and he is not a fan of modding or tuning a truck, he wants it to stay stock. i just think the diesel will give him a ton more power to pull the grade without issues.

also he wants the crew cab, and the Supercrew 6.5bed F150 just seems like it would be even more of a slug and harder to park, being so long.

If he has driven both of them and still wants the F-150, I don't know what to say. Usually, all it takes is a test drive. You could figure out how much more room the F-150 actually holds, and make the argument that he is not getting that much more from the 150. Or you could argue the power and mileage with all the weight when loaded with wood between the 2.

F-150 6.5 Bed = 65.5 Cubic Feet Of Space
F-250 6.5 Bed = 64.4 Cubic Feet Of Space

The F-150 with a 6.5 bed is not really gaining too much extra room.

I agree with neuspeed5. Tell him to go with the F250 and if he needs more bed space...which isn't much between the two trucks...tell him to get a small single axle trailer...thats what I do when I haul fire wood.

LOL... needing a SD to haul firewood... please don't make me cry...

The F150 will be fine.

First off... unless your father isn't a lumber jack () of any sort then he does not need a F250 with a $6,100 engine for using it to haul firewood once or twice a year. Not to mention the costs of owning and operating it (as in service and fuel costs). If you plan on keeping it for say 3 years, you would be wasting your father's money foolishly.

Oh, I know the diesel is "oh soooo cool"... yeah it is... but it ain't so cool when you need to fix it when it decides to die.

IF you want something heavy duty, just get the F250, Screw, with the v10. You will be fine... trust me.

Stay away from the 5.4l if you get the SD. The F150 Screw will be ok with the 5.4l... but the V10 makes all the difference in the F250.

Oh, and FYI... the F150 will haul lots of firewood anyhow with a 6.5' bed.

I've hauled a lot more than what a heaping bed of firewood would weigh in my v6 F150 and it did great.

It may be a slug going up the hill, but it gets to the top, doesn't it?

Manual, i understand you have hauled in your v6. when i hauled 2500 pounds of dirt over the grade @ 4000-4500 ft, the 5.4 wasnt liking it much, much less a v6 would. dont forget, mines a supercab. im not saying just get a diesel to haul firewood, its a ranch vehicle too. plus, he's never had a diesel before i think it'd be good for him to try one.

I don't quite know, but the 25- sounds like overkill to me. Is he going to use it to haul on a daily basis? I heat my house with firewood, and haul a great deal of woodin both the bed and with a 12-foot trailer---and it does fine. Why pay for a bigger engine and a more uncomfortable ride if you really, don't need it?

I agree I have a supercrew with a 5.5 bed, my old truck was a short bed 80's chevy dropped all that stuff. Solution? Tandem axle flat bed car trailer with bed boards you can easily remove.
I can haul wood or anything else if need be.

I use a 12-foot double axle---an old landscaper's trailer. Does the job quite nicely. I haul a great deal of firewood that way---very rarely will I use the bed, but I have. I never have had problems towing at times, almost a 3/4of a ton of logs.

I agree the the 250 would do it with a little less effort, but it it really worth it?

There *IS* something to be said about a 5R110.......and a diesel makes a great ranch vehicle.

I have two kids ain college, you see, and I don't spend money on stuff that I really don't desparately need. If the 150 does what I need it to do, why spend the extra 7 grand (or more!) on something that is overkill?
