When I bought my truck I thought I was getting overkill in sorts. I even said out loud, this will do everything I need to do. Was I fooled.....

The next year I bought a boat and now wanting a bigger one, which isnt a problem for the truck at all. Then less than 2 years I have an older "so heavier" 36' 5th wheel camper. That I have yet to pull with the truck and am sorta scared to hook on to, put undoubtedly will sometime after it's finished, probably next spring. I'm going to pull it to the lake and park it for a vacation home either on rented space or buy some land.

I dunno if I'd install a fifth wheel for a one time pull - I'd think about renting a truck for that.

In reality, if I really needed to tow anything beyond what I know my truck can pull, I can just use one of my friend's trucks... One of them has a diesel F350... so technically, if I needed to borrow it, I could just fix him up with some cash and use it to my hearts extent.

Hey, that's what friends are for!

Something just came to mind when I thought about that above statement...

Why does EVERYONE need their own personal heavy duty truck?! I mean don't you guy's got friends? I remember back when my Dad owned a farm, and if he didn't have an implement, he'd go ask one of his friends... 9 times out of 10 they would give it to him. That 1 time would be if they were using it or it was broke.

Heck, I've let my friends use my vehicles and they've always come back fine... and I can trust them. I've let them use a lot of my equipment and none of them broke any of it. In fact, I let my neighbor use my tractor to mow his lawn, and he always cleans it up for me... and I also let a few other friends use it. Along with a lot of my other stuff. Been this way for years... not to mention in return I get to use their stuff... almost like a barter system of sort.

Just fact of the matter is, you don't need to have your own personal everything... you don't need to own everything. If you are responsible enough, you can use other's stuff, and if you've got trustworthy friends, they will return your stuff like you returned theirs. Even if it means shining and washing their truck after you use it. They will think of you as a respectful person.

I gotta agree with the Manual man---99% of the time my truck serves me fine. It has what I want and does what I need it to do. Why spend tones more for a truck that you willl, for the most part, never have to harness its power? If I need something for a job that my truck cannot do, I will go to my friend the produce farmer (whom I work for part time) and borrow his 2500 Silverado.

Why spend 10's of thousands of dollars more for something that you will rarely---if ever---need? It make no sense to me.

I had to pay a towing guy $150 to bring my trailer home for me.
I didnt have a 5th wheel installed yet and couldn't find anyone else who did.
Afterwards several people said, well you should have called me, I'd traded trucks with you for a couple hours.

We do use the barter system around here alot. A friend of mine has a logsplitter that we share...I let him use my trailer when he needs it, and he lets meuse the logspliter. We both repair the chainsaws for ourselves as well as others---so, in return, we get to borrow "stuff"...

x2 on that stuff... heck my friend just got a new Frontier a few weeks ago, and the first day he got it, he asked me if he could borrow my trailer... I said sure... he's used it about 5 times already, and everytime I've gotten it back, it's cleaner than when I loaned it to him... and in return he lets me borrow any of his cars and trucks... and some of his useful equipment.

I've never had a problem with letting people borrow my stuff.

My stepdaughter's boyfriend wanted to borrow my truck to haul some brush to the dump after the last storm - the only reason I didn't toss him the keys is he's a chitty driver. I helped him load the crap up and drove it to the dump for him. When we got back I borrowed his Little Giant ladder so I could clean the leaves out of my gutters.
