Computer Guys... "disk managament"

What is a good shareware/freeware program to use?

I use to have a copy of Partiion Magic but cant seem ot find it. Seems like the vesrion I had wouldn't work on XP NTFS anyway and dont want to buy another copy. I need to merge some partiions, so whats a good, safe, dependable Freeware/Shareware disk managment program?

I am by no means a computer guy but on my comp I use AD-AdwareSE, and Spybot search and destroy. Just google those names and you can download them for free. Thats been working for me for about 1 year now. I usually scan the computer 1 a month with each program

fdisk is the only dependable one.
Even the new versions of Partition Magic don't work like they used to and tend to mess everything up. If it worked for you though, you could always bittorrent the lastest version. Just make sure to delete it within 24 hours

Can you merge in Fdisk with out losing data?

Fdisk kind of scares me, unless I'm formatting, because I've messed up once or twice. I like to visually see the drives and know for sure which one(s) I'm working on. :o

I've got Viral and Adware covered, I need a disk management utility to merge partions on the hard drive with out losing data. (hopefully) It is backed up but dont want to spend 3 hours restoring files from DVD's...... This is about 150-200 GB of data.......

No, you sure can't. The only way to resize using Fdisk is to delete the partition all together and recreate it.

LOL

I'm about 2 seconds from saying that.......

I'm getting ready to add probably 6-10GB to a folder but am out of romm on that partiion. I really dont want to move the folder as it has other associations. The partion next to it has 90GB free and no associations..... So would seem logical to just merge them.

Thats what I thought but I'm in no sense of the word an FDisk wizard. I know of it and can follow the directions it gives on the screen.

Try this search.

http://www.google.com/search?as_q=&h...s=&safe=images

This is the first one it shows on the search, which seems to be able to do what you want.

http://www.partition-manager.com/

Acronis also has one.

http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing...titioning.html

Not freeware, but if you need it you need it. You might also try adding freeware to the search I did.

I usually use Acronis Disc Director, but I've also had luck with Partition Magic.

Acronis Disk Director Suite. It's not free, but well worth the $$.
