whooped a gmc/chevy

so i pull up next to a stock height gmc/chevy, it was night and i could only tell what it was by it's headlights in my sideview, as I pulled away from him ... but anyways, when the light turns green, this guy floors it, with loud as heck mufflers, as soon as i hear that i floor it, catch him and pass him up... it was old body style though. man at 4000 or so rpm my intake really kicks it up, sounds chewbacca

later though, my buddy beat me in his civic si coupe, i was ahead of him for like the first 100 or so feet, then at about 60 mph, he goes into 5th or 6th gear and pulls away

i got maggie sido, 3.5" af1, fal 270 efans, troyer 93octane performance tune,
redline oil?, but i also got a 6" lift and 35" tires, stock 3.73 gears, love the mileage, but hate the slow down, i think i want 4.56's

ITS AN SI COUPE. I work at Honda and that means something where I work. 197hp in a little civic is going to be fast, and they have impressive torque for an inline 4. Im surprised you got him for 100ft, but your truck isn't stock either. How is your friend in fifth gear at 60? When I race around in one I'm only in like third gear at 60. Your buddy must not revv it all the way to VTECH, where all the power is. YES, VTECH actually means something, its not just a name.

In my opinion, racing a car with a truck is like apples to oranges.

It's tempting... but it ain't proving anything, but just who can waste gas the fastest.

Also, just as a FYI, those Honda's have some pretty steep gearing in them, but also the engines can wind up to 10k or something in that SI. What impresses me the most about these newer i4's is the torque capacities they are pushing out of them N/A. Then again too, that SI is a LOT lighter than your truck... not to mention it looks like a tadpole.

You were racing and you were in overdrive at 60? At that pace you would have lost to a Geo.

Yeah, all 127 ft lbs of it, not so impressive if you ask me. They are fast but I wouldnt go so far as to call it "impressive." Hell, my old Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V had 175/180 hp and tq and I never raced anyone.

Uh, no. VTEC is Honda's name for Variable Valve Timing. Toyota calls it VVT-i, Nissan CVTCS. It is not actually a performance booster, it's just valves that stay open longer the more RPM's you apply. You can't "rev it all the way to VTEC."

Oh, and VTEC stands for Variable Timing Engine Control. It is just a brand name for the same thing other cars have. Hell, my Accord had VTEC...

Out of curiosity, what do you do for Honda? I work in the motorcycle division of American Honda.
