Need some IT Help

I working on a small network with 10 PC's on it. They are in a workgroup. Latley they are having problems accessing a mapped drive on the server. (ie it is slow to respond)

They are running a mix of server 2003 and server 2000.

Any idea what could casue this?

It does not happen everytime the try to access the drive.

Thanks

Justin

Are you using a switch or hub?
Is it just after bootup/login?

how olds the your hardware?
Any chance of problems with wires, running by large electric equipment?
Does it happen to everyone after a certain time or just random?

The equipment is new (ie within the last 3 months)

It seems to happen at random on different computers throughout the day

are the credentials the same on both machines?
Are you using just 1 general login for server shares?
if they are in a workgroup and not part of a network, are you just using a login script?

Have you tried running any perfmons on the local server that the shared folder resides on? CPU, disk IO counters, memory, nic? then you can map the timing of the performance to reported complaints. If nothing shows up it would probably be some other bottleneck on the network or possibly some OS patch needed (doesn't sound like it in this case but could be)

I ran a trace program and everything seems to be in order.

Does any of the servers have a user limit or timeout feature on connection?
