JavaScript/Adobe Flash Player

Lately when I try to view videos on youtube, I've been getting this error:

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.
I updated both Java and Adobe and rebooted my computer. I checked to see if JavaScript is turned on and it is. Is there something else I should be doing?

Here ya go ...

http://www.google.com/support/youtub...n&answer=57669

(Hint: try uninstall/reinstall, then clearing browser cache/cookies as suggested in that thar linky lol)

FWIW - If you ever get system errors like this, it doesn't hurt to cut&paste the error text, and drop it into that Google Search thingy ...

If you do that with this one, you'll get a lot of helpful hits ....

Thanks for the info.. But I did everything it said, and still no luck. I tried to reinstall Flash Player. Said it reinstalled, but now I can't find it anywhere on my computer.

?

If you go here: http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/ does it detect that it's installed?

Try the procedure again, from scratch.

BTW - which O/S, and which browser (just curious)....

And keep searching those links in Google.... good luck.

Often times it's better than Tech Support.

Quinton ought to give it a try.

I'm using Windows/IE 6. Yes, the link you posted shows that it is installed. Guess I'll keep trying until it works or I do this...

Thanks for your help.

Ok - Version 9,0,47,0 was detected, right?

If you run Regedit, do you see this key? Be careful here - just look....

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayer

And if you go to IE>Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Manage Add-ons, is all the stuff enabled?

Yes, it was detected.

How do you run Regedit? (sorry, I'm not the greatest at this stuff)

All the add-ons are enabled.

All the add-ons are enabled.

Start>Run> type in Regedit in the box, & click ok.

[I'm real reluctant to have you use this as there is no safety net. Perhaps create a restore point first, just in case lol]

The structure you see is called a 'hive' (no, not like Resident Evil lol!), just drill down by expanding the tree called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayer .

This should show you keys with the current version - it's just another confirmation ... hit the red X to close - don't enter/type/change anything.

At this point I'm outta ideas - I've never had one not resurrect by following the previously posted steps ..... any local help available who can 'touch' the pc?

BTW - any recent backups, restore points you can use? All the latest O/S patches applied? Virus/malware scanned? Other system maintenance like defrag performed. etc, etc?

g'luck.
