Running for a cure.
Running for a cure.
I received this letter from my niece Erin Lee and thought I would pass it along to anyone who may want to help her out.
Please if anyone is interested in helping out it would be greatly appreciated. She is a very caring young person (and my favorite niece). Young people these days doing these type of things show so much promise for the future so please help her out.

>Hey Everyone -
>
>On October 21, 2007, I will be running in the Nike Women's Marathon
(26.2 miles!).
>
>I am running this marathon as part of The Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society's Team in Training. All of us on Team in Training are working
to raise funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's programs of
patient aid, blood cancer research and education. Leukemia is the
leading disease cause of death among children ages 1 through 14. In
1965, 95% of all children diagnosed with the disease died and now, over
89% survive. With your help, we are hoping to raise that number
to 100%, for both children and adults.
>
>I am running in honor of a local lymphoma patient, Ruth. Ruth
was diagnosed with B cell lymphoma of the brain in 2003. She had
surgery and 3 intense chemotherapy treatments, which did not bring about
remission. She then had 6 weeks of radiation and is now in
remission. Not only has Ruth been fighting her own battle with
lymphoma, but her husband has been fighting the disease for the last 17 years.
>
>Each mile of the marathon that I run represents the long road of
treatment and recovery that Ruth, her husband, and all blood cancer patients
have to endure. I have made the personal commitment to
raise $4000 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I will follow an
18 week training program to get me conditioned to cross the finish line
of the marathon. I know that during the next few months, I will
be challenged both mentally and physically, but these challenges will
not even come close to the challenges that all patients must face every
day as they go through treatment.
>
>Please join me in my quest to make life brighter for all cancer
patients by making a donation. Any contribution, regardless of size, is
greatly appreciated. Also, remember that all donations are
tax-deductible. You can make a donation through my personal website:

>
>Please check my website often, as I will be updating it with my
progress. My goal is to finish the marathon in about 5 hours.
Hopefully my training will help me achieve that. If you have any
questions you can email me at ErinLee62@gmail.com.
>
>I want to thank you in advance for your support, but more importantly,
the patients and their families' thank you for your support in helping
to find a cure!
>
>Sincerely,
>
>Erin
>
>P.S. If you know anyone who would be interested in supporting
this cause, please give them my website or a copy of this letter.
Also, please ask your place of employment about matching contributions.

That's pretty cool that your niece is doing this. Does she run a lot outside of this or is this just somerthing that she wanted to do?
