Texas Hunting Permit

Do I need to have a Texas drivers license in order to get a hunting permit? How much are the permits? I plan on going hunting on my friends private land way out in BFE so do I still need a permit even if its private land? I moved here from Florida last winter and have no clue about getting a Texas hunting permit and about the Texas hunting laws.

Yes I should. I have been extremely lazy about that and plan on getting one next week sometime.

Since you're supposed to get a Texas drivers license within 30 days after moving there so maybe you should make that your first priority.
Not sure if you need the hunting license or not since it's on private land. If you do need one you will have to show valid id and with a Florida license they might make you buy an out of state license which will most likely cost more.

that was what I was thinking. But I plan on getting my Texas Drivers license next week so I should be OK in that department. My good friends dad owns a bunch of land out near abilene somewhere. Thats where we plan on going once deer season starts. I guess I can go online and buy the hunting permit once i get the Texas drivers license.

As far as the different laws I have seen, can't say for sure in Texas, If you own or rent the land, you can hunt without a license. Otherwise you need the license. Since you are not legally living there, more than likely you need a license.

Here in Arkansas you need a license to hunt any land, public or private. Generally game and fish licenses are cheaper for state residents than for out-of-state hunters so it would be to your advantage to get your TX drivers license which should establish your residency there.

you have to have a hunting license no matter what. go to walmart and the sporting goods section will have the hunting laws booklet you can have and read. all your questions will be answered or at the very least most will be answered.

You can get a out of state tag which is usually outragously priced. You should still need a permit as even if they can eat your own crops they are actually the govt's critters until one runs in front of your truck. Here if you own the land you can get a permit pretty cheap (used to be $1, not sure if it still is) but they have added so much paperwork to it that it is a pain to get.

Its strikes me funny as you are too lazy to get a TX drivers license, but you drive everyday.

You will be willing to get a hunting license, only for a weekend hunt?

WTF?

Dave...Get your TX drivers license first (you know you want one anyway!). The price doesn't even compare to out-of-state licenses. A TX resident hunters permit (just for your deer hunt) is only about $30 this year for a resident. If you want to add to that you can. $7 for a migratory bird stamp, another $7 for upland bird stamp, or you can do what most of us do and get a "Super Combo" for $64 which includes hunting & fishing license all together (not including duck stamp). Get on it and save yourself some money and do it right. Let me tell you as a born and raised TX hunter, you do NOT want to get caught hunting without the proper license. The Game Wardens here in TX have more power than you could imagine. Always, ALWAYS keep your self in regulation when it comes to enjoying the outdoors withing TPWD (Texas Parks & Wildlife Department) jurisdiction. Not only to stay legal, but to allow others and future others to hunt and fish in this great state. PM me if you have more questions.
