Only in America, wtf
So I heard about this this morning and was absolutely astounded.
This area is not far at all from Ft.Bragg and even if it wasn't near a military installation, this seems downright offensive to every American.

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. – On the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, students at one high school were not allowed to wear clothes with an American flag.
Under a new school rule, students at Hobbton High School are not allowed to wear items with flags, from any country, including the United States.
The new rule stems from a controversy over students wearing shirts bearing flags of other countries.
Gayle Langston said her daughter, Jessica, was told to remove her stars and stripes t-shirt.
“Today she wanted to wear her shirt, and I had to tell her no,” said Langston. “She didn't like it at all because I knew it would get her in trouble. Of all days, 9/11, she could not wear her American Flag shirt.”
The superintendent of schools in Sampson County calls the situation unfortunate, but says educators didn’t want to be forced to pick and choose which flags should be permissible.
Pick and choose???? hello, it's OUR NATION's FLAG@@!!!! grrr
This happened less than an hr away from post. Meanwhile all my kids were encouraged to wear red, white, and blue...americana themed apparel and had a flagpole ceremony.
The 'ban' was promptly lifted.... geez.... no wonder we sometimes wonder what the heck we serve and defend for!!!!

Bu11****. This is America, people are here because this is the land of oppertunity. I dont care if you bring your heritage and religion here, but keep in mind why your here. Your country was lacking in one way or another or you would still be there. The United States is our country, citizens of this country fight and die to keep it how it is. The school wouldnt tell my kid( I dont have a kid, I pull out) they couldnt wear a shirt with a flag. I would have to be forcefully removed from that school if they tried to enforce it. My brother is in Iraq dodging bullets to defend this country, to support for our country on such a terrible day is not only needed but required IMO. This aggrivates me to no end... Thanks for posting, we need to be aware of the good and the bad.

If it was my son's school I would remind them that they recieve Federal funding by the US goverment (based on attendance). I would have sent him in with the flag on and see what happened (and encouraged alot of other parents to do so). When they called me to change the shirt out I would bring him home so they would loose that days funding for him. Why would the parents of that district stand for that???

the ban didn't last a day or so... now only the school board has authority to decide policy, not an individual principal.
To me one of the saddest parts of this story is the fact that this is an exceptionally small town. I'd expect a story like this from a large city, but I'd always experienced more patriotism in small towns.... well, off to don the uniform with a <gasp> flag patch.......
