Section 8b of the Flag Code of the United States says:

The flag should never be used as wearing apparel.
So people shouldn't be wearing the flag as clothing anyway...

Who do you think you are, Kid Rock?

IMO, wearing an actual flag as clothing is bad.

Wearing actual clothing with pictures of our flag on it is OK, if the clothing honors the flag and country. If the the clothing items are overly tacky and/or disrespectul to the flag and our country, then they are not OK.

Some people (including some very patriotic Americans) interpret the code posted by Walkin it Dry to mean that the US flag should not be depicted on clothing. They feel it is disrespectful to the flag that millions have fought for and died to protect.

Is it possible that the school district thought they were honoring the flag and educating the kids about its importance by refusing to allow it to be trivialized on clothing? Maybe the school does not like to see the flag used as if it were a commercial logo of no more importance than the Nike swoosh.

So maybe they are not America hating commie pinkos after all.

This is very understandable. The poster of this topic just blew it out of proportion.

Don't think so man. Not being able to show respect by wearing a shirt with a flag of your country, esp on Sep 11.
Passionate yes, out of proportion, no.

I think some of the prior posts were incorrect--Kid Rock pic... it was not the wearing of a flag.... yes that does violate code. A shirt with a flag depiction, that was the ban.

Of course, I have the flag on my shoulder everyday, do you?

Obviously that rule was put in place to not offend any one of any nationality or gang affiliation. Just because its sept 11 isn't a reason to break that rule and let them wear American flags and not any other flags. If they were allowed to were whatever flag on a shirt that day, then like I said above, it might offend people of different nationalities and gang affiliation. Thats my standpoint

Wow, your callousness toward Sep 11 is amazing. Most places stopped and paid respect. Most ceremonies involved the American flag. Folks wear their flag lapel pins and yellow ribbons here with pride.

Laughable that we might offend a nationality by our flag. It is a national symbol. This is America. Sadly it's becoming an America afraid to be proud of its heritage. Wouldn't want too offend an immigrant by being proud of Old Glory.

The new rule stems from a controversy over students wearing shirts bearing flags of other countries.
you would have to think there is as reson for this, fights, violence, disrespect for how it was dispayed.. before i rip the priciple, i would want to know what happened that put this rule in place.
