Desktop Core2Duo procs are 65 watt devices, with a maximum allowable case temperature of 72 degC. While lower than most previous designs, this is still not what I'd consider to be 'cool' LOL!

ftp://download.intel.com/design/proc...s/31327806.pdf

Take away the thermal managment solution and you will have a toaster - REAL fast.

No one who has a clue, no - but more than a few have used marginal (a.ka. cheap) cooling devices - there are a TON of crappy ones. Or no HS grease. Or both LOL!

No real biggie anymore - the things just declock now, or completely shut down, instead of going postal. Just like failsafe cooling in the Triton engines LOL!

Pelletier - all the way. God, I love physics.

I don't understand why people are all about the water cooling, sure its slightly more efficient than air but unless your using water with a pelt you cant get it below ambient anyway

working my way too 3.4Ghz right now

Psh, nobody uses Peltires. It's all about Phase Change cooling so you can get that baby down to -75C or so.

But I can get Pelletier devices from Princess Auto so cheaply it's unbelievable.

Looks pretty awesome- sure hope it isn't in your bedroom though...you won't be able to sleep! I have a window in my case with a blue orb coolng fan and a few other blue LEDs and that alone lights the room up pretty good- what you have there would damn near wake the neighbors!

If you don't mind me asking, what did it all run? And where did you get it? the entire case and setup looks EXTREMELY clean and of high quality. I like it!

(PS, the most hardcore gamers will tell you that to be 100% optimal you should keep your hz and frame rates matched as best as possible, and most will also advise to keep it around 100hz/fps. Having variation between those two things can cause problems where the screen isn't quite displaying what the video card think it is and your precision will be a bit off. that's why I still game on a CRT instead of an LCD)

its useful when you can buy a $200 processor and run it at speeds of a $900 processor by using a $50 aftermarket cooler

truth

3.4!!!!!!

thats a 800Mhz increase

I also knocked a second off my 1M super pi time in one day... all I did was get another 200 out of the processor, 50 out of the ram and tightened the timings

Newegg has the best site layout and the biggest selection, but honestly you can usually find better prices at ZipZoomFly/mWave/TigerDirect/ChiefValue/etc.

true, but i also like neweggs return policies, DOA policies, and customer service a lot more then those other sites. the prices are barely different anyways.

Yeah, I hear Newegg is awesome when it comes to that stuff. I've been lucky enough not to get any DOA parts or have to deal with customer service at any of them though.
