Not anymore, the NRA can KMWA. I don't have time for gun rags, nor do I care for the blatant advertisement and biased assessments in said rags. I prefer FFG, and Backwoodsman, Shotgun News is nice, but I never have any money so I don't even pick it up, I don't want to get depressed.

Keep? Whatchu talking about Willis?
They have, from their exception, supported every piece of Liberty Infringing gun control legislation sdaaled upon the peopl that blights Freedom loving Americans.
I am busy with other things right now, but here's a copy of a letter I sent to the NRA. They invited me to spend $150 per ticket to attend one of their meetings I declined. They and their pet duck hunters can suck an egg.

I received the ‘2006--THE YEAR IN REVIEW’ e-mail from the NRA-ILA and had had to chuckle. Unfortunately my laughter was only momentary and then it gave way to contempt. Before I go any further please take a moment to read the opening paragraph of the e-mail in question:
2006--THE YEAR IN REVIEW
Here are some of the top stories we brought you in the NRA ILA Grassroots Alert in 2006. With the new challenges we will inevitably face next year in Congress and the states, we must re-double our efforts to ensure we are prepared to effectively defend the Second Amendment. To that end, we will continue to provide you with information in future Alerts to ensure our success.
This particularly dubious statement is what raised my ire.
“…we must re-double our efforts to ensure we are prepared to effectively defend the Second Amendment.”
I find it to be both laughable and disingenuous. The National Rifle Association has been a leading facilitator of gun control legislation in this country since 1934.
The 1934 National Firearms Act (NFA) placed an excessive tax on select fire weapons, sound moderators, and certain ‘short barreled’ firearms. It was whole heartedly supported by the National Rifle Association. The following is a quote from Karl T FREDERICK who was the President of the NRA in 1934
(NRA’s President's Testimony During Congressional Debate
of the National Firearms Act of 1934): ... "I have never believed in the general practice of carrying weapons... I do not believe in the general promiscuous toting of guns. I think it should be sharply restricted and only under licenses"
Neither the Constitution nor the Bills of Rights mention needing a license from the government to exercise our freedoms, so why did (and does) the NRA support such tyranny?
The NRA supported the 1938 Federal Firearms Act (FFA) which mandated that any person selling firearms must obtain a Federal Firearms License, and to maintain records of the name and address of persons to whom firearms were sold.
In 1968 the NRA fully supported the 1968 Gun Control Act (GCA) which mimics the **** Weapons Law of 1938. Among the repugnant sections of the act are
"a. requiring a sworn statement, containing certain information, from the purchaser to the seller for the receipt of a handgun in interstate commerce;"
"b. providing for notification of local police of prospective sales;"
"c. requiring an additional 7-day waiting period by the seller after receipt of acknowledgement of notification to local police;"
and
"...requir[ing] a license to carry a pistol concealed on one's person or in a vehicle..."
In addition to creating a gun owner registry with provisions a., b., and c. they violate a persons 4th amendment rights. 1 The last provision is clearly un-Constitutional. “Shall not be infringed” does not translate to “must have a license”.
One needs to look no farther than the March 1968 issue of American Rifleman for proof, specifically pages 22 – 23.
Pg 22 “WHERE THE NRA STANDS ON GUN LEGISLATION
97-year record shows positive approach to workable gun laws
By ALAN C. WEBBER
Associate Editor
THE AMERICAN RIFLEMAN”
"The National Rifle Association has been in support of workable, enforceable gun control legislation since its very inception in 1871."
—NRA Executive Vice President Franklin L. Orth
NRA's American Rifleman Magazine, March 1968, P. 22
The so called 1994 ‘Assault weapons ban’ was yet another useless and un-Constitutional piece of legislation that without the support of the NRA would have never passed.
Yet in spite of these glaring examples of the NRA compromising my rights as an American citizen I still receive monthly if not weekly solicitations for my hard earned money to financially support the NRA and its activities. Unless and until the NRA stands for the true meaning of the second amendment, which is not about shotguns or duck hunting, and for ALL gun owners you will not receive a single penny from me.
Respectfully,

1 Text of the 4th amendment: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
American Rifleman since I assume we ALL get that one? RIGHT?
I am also a NRA member
The only thing that makes me mad about them is the constant letters asking for money on a weekly basis
It is getting really old!!!
I wonder how many members on here are NRA members???

Springfield XD-9 ($350 used, with 4 mags!)
Beretta NEO 22, with a red dot sight, just for kicks!
and I just left my Springfield 1911 GI at the gunsmith with a broken
front nite sight. It just snapped off while I was shooting it! I was so
PO'ed, at least there's no charge on the replacement.

The Springfield 1911 GI is great, especially for the price, I got mine for $600 at Academy in the polished SS finish. It does't have all the fancy bells and whistles, but it works great. The only problem I had was the tiny, hard to find sights, although they are very accurate, it takes a little while to find them. So I went down to the local gunsmith and had some nite sights put on, I wasn't worried about keeping the "GI" look, just wanted better sights. Well I've had nothing but trouble since then, I took it back twice because the front sight had come loose, then this last time the sight just snapped off. They are not cheap sights either, Trijicon sights. The only thing I can think of is that the front sight is not as secure because it's a post design not a dovetail. Anyway, its being fixed and I hope fixed for good this time!

I still get stuff from NRA-ILA because i chose too so i can donate when i feel the need to.
GOA is also a great organization to join.
I agree there are plenty of problems with NRA, but no other orginization has the clout with the Congress to affect anything. I may not agree with everything they do (I don't), but I'll continue my little contributions. There are other orgs that are more in line with the 2nd Amendment - GOA, JFTPF, etc.., and I've sent contributions to both of those and more. But the NRA is still the only one with a meaningful say in legislation.
Yes the NRA has compromised it's own stated values on many occasions.. On the other hand it's picked it's fights well enough.. The "assault weapon ban", what a joke, is gone.. the 10 round mag limit is gone.. Still no national gun registry, that's the next big fight..
We're fortuntate that this Supreme Court seems pretty much disposed to a literal reading of the Constitution..
So, yes I'm a member of the NRA, and will continue to be until someone with a more influential org steps up.

FYI, the 94 AWB would not have passed if it was not for the NRA. 10 years of screwing on their behalf. Also several states still have their own AWB's that mimic or are even worse than the 94 Federal one. MD being one of those states.
Bartak1,
Gone nuts? Sheeeit, I've BEEN nuts.

Even after the judgement was sent down to give them back to their rightful owners Nagin refused. The NRA didn't say boo about it, but GOA is still pushing it. When it comes to a matter of principle there is no room for compromise. I'll start another thread later about the NRA so we don't derail this one. We cn derail a whole nuther one.

NRA members skew towards an older demographic these days, more likely to contribute $.
Bump up a new thread, I'd love to hear more folks ideas about this..
In the meantime, here's a nice double **** Creek over ice for ya Pony_Driver...
