In Case of Emergency

Hey, I got this email from my Grandma... I hate forwarding on this stuff... but it is a decently good idea so I thought I'd share it here.
...

As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you
need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be
contacted during emergency under the name "ICE" ( In Case
Of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the
scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they
didn't know which number to call. He therefore
thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally
recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency
Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the
right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as "ICE."

For more than one contact name, simply enter ICE1, ICE2, ICE3, etc.
A great idea that will make a difference! Let's spread the concept of ICE
by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones now!

Seems like a really good idea. Im going to ask some of my firefighter and paramedic friends if they know about this. If they do then ill probably do it myself.

I always program my home number and label it as "Home". I think that might clue them in.

Then I guess I'm gonna die. It's just me and my wife here. Her closest kid is 6 hours away and my closest family member is over 1000 miles away.
The wife doesn't even have or want a cell phone so I guess she'll really be hooped. It's a small town though and I'd probably hear about something happening faster than they could get her to a hospital.
Not bashing the idea though. It's certainly something worth doing but I like the labels of Home, Mom, Dad, etc better.

This is a very good idea. I read about it in the local newspaper around 6 months ago and immediately changed the contact names in my childrens' cell phones to ICE: Mom at work, ICE: Dad at work, ICE: Mom's cell, ICE: Dad's cell etc...

In an emergency when seconds count, I want to be reached as quickly as possible.

No cell phone, I do it the old fashioned way, I carry a purse with a drivers license, Military ID, and tiny address book with important names and numbers in it. In addition I have a vehicle registration and insurance card in the vehicle, name and address on each. I think they'd have what they need to find my loved ones.

I heard of this a while ago and set up my phone and my wifes like this but in front of "ICE" I put the asterix symbol that way it is at the top of the phone list, like this: "*ICE Wife"

Also added wife so they knew who they were contacting.
