A new El Camino?
A new El Camino?
There's a lot of rumors running around that GM plans to bring the Holden Ute to the US as either an El Camino or Cabellero or possibly a Pontiac. I think if they do bring it, but don't call it Camino they should call it Sprint, but oh well...
Now, I know what most of you will say, but this is general discussion, and I don't want to talk about politics or cry-baby celebrities for a bit... eh?
So, what do y'all think of the Ute coming to the US. I've thought for years it would be a great idea, but anymore, I'm not sure. I know little trucks are pretty much dead here, and if priced right the Ute could fill a void... but...
Its possible they might be able to bring this thing over, and not screw it up, and I might want one, but I've still got Camaro and Challenger on the brain, however I'm thinking more realistically a Solstice GXP or Sky Redline...
So, here's the Ute that would probably brought over...

and here are a few photochops I found:

The chops ain't too bad, but...

Not gonna happen. Americans buy trucks because they like BIG, TOUGH, and SAFE. Not because they need the bed. Granted, a good amount of people use trucks for work which requires the bed, but they obviously will continue to buy just a truck since it will be tougher and work harder.
My point is, the demographic that buys trucks and doesn't REALLY need them won't like a little ute/El Camino wannabe.

I agree about the bed. There's something there that just ain't right, and that's my big hold back... I think part of it is the skinny b-pillar. I don't care for the skinny pillars of the 64-67, much prefer the pillars on my '77...

Not all Americans like huge trucks. Many people buy a full size, because they're about the same price as a small truck. I know many people that would buy a Ranger if Ford actually did something with them except raise the price...
Never say never...
