are you fing me

so i see an ad that ford is selling 4x4 screw 07 for 25 and some change. i take my 02 screw 61000 miles fx4 for a trade. the guy comes back and tells me he will give me 10000 for a trade in. i asked if he was joking. he tells me that because the new truck is priced so low that i get less for my truck. why is it my fault the price is low and why should i get screwed on the trade. he then tells me if the truck was regular price i would get 16-18 for my truck. well i go home and look in the paper and the sam place has an ad for a 01 xlt 4x4 for 16990. sorry just getting off my chest im still this morning

A friend of mine has a 2000 Firebird WS6 with tons of mods and only 66k miles...He was going to trade it in on a GMC 2500 until the guy told him they were only going to give him 5k for his car. The salesperson said his car was worth less than what he expected because the mileage was too low...

Heres the car on ebay

I believe dealers typicially make more on the trade in than on the new vehicle they are selling. Try trading your car in at a used car dealership

When I was first looking at trucks I stopped at a dealer to check out a 98 supercab. It was a decent truck, 4.6 70k miles on it, they were asking bluebook for it. We sat down to talk #'s and they offered me $200 for my car. It was neither new or low miles but was in perfect shape and I found their offer downright offensive, it was a 1990 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo. I told them I could put the rims on ebay and get more than that and left. I found an '02 with 25k miles on it for a little more at a small dealer in my hometown, I put my car up for sale for $1600 and sold it for $1200 in a week.

my wife just bought a 05 pacifica at a local dealer, the salesman insisted we drive it before he would even tell us the asking price. we drove it, brought it back and inquired about price, he said 18,900, i told him the dealer down the street had an 05 with similar options and less mile for 15,900, we drove it home for 14,900. the only reason we bought it was to replace the town + country she had been driving for 6 yrs was consuming my weekends with repairs, and i needed those weekends to fix the blown out plug on my 00 f150 4.6. so yes dealers make a killing on any sale if they can drop 4,000 off the price in 30sec without the managers approval. the van she had been driving i sold for 2300 to a private party, the dealer offered 1000 on trade.

They could by standing firm on the price of the new truck. There is a reason dealerships advertise push, pull, or tow your trade in for $2000. They rape you on the price of the new one, little room for negotiation when they give you a couple grand for that 1970 Dodge Demon.

I've been trying to sell my fully loaded (immaculate) '04 FX4 Screw for over 5 weeks now. When I first bluebooked it, it was $28,700.... every week it has dropped at least $1,000 on KBB. They say the average miles on my truck should be like 55,000 and I have 30k. It's absolutely rediculous!

Dealers usually way inflate used prices on the lot for this very reason, people want to see big trade ins. Priced low, trade low... priced high, trade high. Car dealers don't afford those nice buildings and lots by not turning a good profit. Same can be said for Insurance companies and doctors.

If the deal doesn't make sense, don't do the deal. He's looking for a counter offer usually, so throw it back at him... you are talking about the difference in value between the two trucks - what's the number that makes the deal good for you? $15K isn't it. Is $5K? Then counter at that. If you are that offended by their offer, deals dead anyway.

I don't know if you have a Carmax anywhere near you, but if ya do take it there and get an appraisal. They'll offer to buy it even if you don't want one of their used vehicles.

I think a reasonably clean '02 FX4 screw with 61k on it, they'd offer in the 16k range. And then try and sell it for 19 or more.

God knows they price their used vehicles high. Take a look at carmax.com and see what I mean.

I know a couple of people that've sold their cars to 'em and were happy with the price.. higher than the dealer was offering for trade in value..
