are you fing me
Dealers will never pay you as much for your trade in as you would get from a private party, unless they are totally gouging you on the new car price.
Last time my wife and I bought a new car, two dealers offered us $2,600 on her trade in (based on NADA). We sold it private party for $4,400 cash to the first guy who came and looked at it (full asking price).
In my experience, the Kelly Blue Book private party prices are usually too high and sometimes WAY too high. That does not stop optimistic sellers from using it. If KBB still has a website calculator for what the dealer would pay as a trade in price, run that as well. Average that with the KBB private party price and you'll be closer to a 'real world' private party price, IMO.

New truck prices are relatively low and gas prices are still pretty high.
Buyers can get lower interest financing when purchasing new and they would rather have new anyways.
The housing market is bad, so people don't have as much equity in their homes to put into cars, trucks and recreation.
Add all those things up, and you have a soft market for used trucks.

Dealers sure love people that think trading in is the only way to go
Do yourself a favor and sell it private party- it's easy, fast, and cheap when compared to trading in. Even a blowout price for private party will beat 99% of dealer offers.
