I tried Vista for a little while and ended up deleting it. I had Home Premium, btw. It was OK, I just didnt like it. So I went back to XP. Why not just install MacOS on your new laptop too and have the functionality of two computers in one. That's what I did.

For that kind of money you can get a mac with a much better OS IMHO. the actual Tiger has almost 2 years since release and don't have any problem since installed march/06
In 2 more mothe APPLE is going to release a new OS if you want to wait as i'll do.
PD. By the way. The almost 2 years old MAC OS Tiger is prety much like a windows VISTA. If you want to have the next Microsoft OS a year earlier just buy a MAC

I tell ya, I hear some good stuff about Mac, but I finally went to an Apple store one day and was lost
I dont think I could figure out how to run a Mac if my life depended on it.

Being in the SW bidness, I will agree that W2K is the most stable OS MS has ever offered. I personally know one of the co-devleopers that wrote it. Its very solid but soon to be EOL and not supported.
XP Pro is also very stable NOW.
Ok here's goes my rant. Vista doesn't suck as bad as it did a month ago and I suspect in about a year, it'll be nice. It has cuased me a ton of compatabilty isssies but I can honestly say, it gets better with each hot fix.
you can still get XP on Dell boxes but there's a trick....don't buy them from the end user site, call in and talk to the business side and you will still get XP Pro.
If you get a Vista box, do not attpempt to format it and reload with XP, your world will offically end if you do that.
Will I get another Visat box? Not anytime soon. I have 5 machines running right now, 1 vista for testing, 1 W2K and 3 XP-P's.
My next machine will be a Mac. (did I just freaking type that? )
Some interesting write ups on Vista.

Yes Vista has been unofficially dubbed ME2.

RR, Win2K was a PITA until it got a couple service packs under its belt - just like ANY M$ operating system in recent history. I agree, XP is very stable - NOW.
I went from 95 OSR2 to NT4 Workstation - then to 2K when SP2 came out. I'm not planning the next upgrade till I have a good reason to. All my s/w runs fine on 2k and I haven't had to reformat it in 6 years. Like I said - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Heck - if my software all ran on NT and if its plug and play wasn't a joke, I'd prolly still be using it.
