Spontaneous Combustion?

Wood Chips Catch Fire In N. Texas Playground

While there have not been any similar fires at playgrounds in Austin, the fire department says there have been 12 fires started by organic material spontaneously combusting in Austin in the past five years.

Never knew this was really a threat........

Do the parents not realize how long it would take from the start of combustion to the point where it could actually hurt someone??? They would see smoke, then fire in a small area, and if they were smart, they would get off the swings then... Idiots...

I am a firm believer in spontaneous human combustion. Apparently, it occurs only in the brain on most victims, and only affects their common sense and reasoning lobes... Thats why there are so many stupid people out there...

Exactly, it's not like suddenly out of no where it explodes in an unescapable inferno.

LOL

spontaneous human combustion could be real, but I tend to wonder if a can of gas and a match lent a helping hand in the few recorded cases.....

I think that what they mean by "bust"

Like when someone says (We are going to Florida or "bust")... that means they are going to try to make it to Florida or fart.......

Ps, I don't consider Austin to be North Tx.

I guess that makes Dallas "Far North Texas" and the Panhandle might as well be in Canada

Spontaneous combustion happens all the time in hay barns, compost piles and saw mills. Saw mills have huge stacks of logs waiting to be processed and on hot summer days you'll see sprinklers set up on top of each stack running continuously to keep the logs from combusting.

I thought it was to keep them from splitting by drying out.

Oops, seems we were both wrong :o

We keep the logs wet to inhibit the germination of molds and fungi until they are cut.
