SonicWall Tracker

We have SonicWall at work to block certain websites (ebay, myspace, ect...). The dang thing also tracks the websites you visit and how much time you spend on them. Our system doesn't record by computer but it's not hard to tell that I'm the one on the Ford site (we only have 13 employees). I don't spend that much time on here, mosthly at lunch and a few minutes at the end of the day, but our IT person keeps jacking me about the time spent on here.

Is there anyway to get around this time tracking program? If they block this site, I am going to be PO'd.

(Yes, I know it's ironic that I'm on here at 1:24 pm, but it's Friday people )

Live with it or get a different job. They are providing you with a computer to do your job, they are paying you to do your job. They define what your job entails. If you try to get around their lawful restrictions and get caught, they have every right to fire you. It will be a lot easier to get a different job BEFORE that happens.

Sheesh guys, it isn't like I'm surfing **** all day. And UC, yes I need a new job - one as an IT person so I can figure out how to get around frickin SonicWall.

I'm not slackin at work, I would just like to pop in now and then without it looking like I'm spending all day on here.

You need to use a proxy. either manually or through a proxy website. You can try a site like www.safeforwork.net or www.proxyninja.com. If all else fails you can set your computer to be a proxy tunnel at home and set it up at work. Its hardware firewall controlled by a small httpd server. However if you use a proxy site, they'll see the time you were on the site, but will have a hard time proving what site you visited because of the x-forward of the proxy. The x forward holds browser information like ip address, website your are viewing and the protocol you are using i.e tcp, udp, and so on.

I have no idea why your small office is using an expensive azz router like sonicwall, but whatever floats their boat. There are many ways to defeat this.

I worked for a company who tracked our net time and sites visited. Guy upstairs whose title was literally "Controller" would bust us all the time, even though all 16 of us techs ALWAYS got our jobs done.

Should've seen the look on his face when we'd freeze everyone else outta the system by using the LAN to play Half-Life during lunch. Kinda funny though... 16 techs, scattered around the shop, machine gun fire, grenades and explosions going off while they would try to do customer walk throughs during the lunch hour "quiet time".

I like our Sonicwall, but then I am the one who installed it.....And the one who monitors it......

Easy to get thru if you have the access/password. Otherwise, a proxy server would be the simplest way.

I work for a computer networking company (15 employees) as an engineer. Our manager decided to give us all print outs indicating how much time we spent browsing and had a list of the top ten sites that we had visited and the number of hits to each site. This site was at the top and the number of hits was enormous. The software that was being used, SurfControl Web Filter, which we install for clients all the time was being used against us.

The hits to this site were so high because I would leave the site open and minimized for most of the day and every time the Google ads would refresh it would count as a hit.

Too bad we are all smarter than our manager and we found where he had the software installed (a spare laptop) and we shut it off.

Thats pretty sad if youd quit your job just because you couldnt get on an internet forum.

Anyways, an internet proxy like where you view it through another site not one you change the settingso n your IE wont do any good, cuz then they will see youre visiting a proxy website and can see what websites you go to through it. The ones where you change your official IE settings which i dont know how it works, would probably work.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm not trying to screw my company. I work very hard for them turning out good numbers, infact the best numbers for the first 6 months of the year ever just this year.

I would just like to pop in and out every once in a while to see what's new. Heck, I only have 71 posts since 2002. I guess it's the person that's jacking me up that has me ticked about the whole thing. She is our accountant and all she does is sit at her desk and surf for apartment complexes to buy. She does next to nothing but just beotch all day.

Switching gears, how would I send a virus to a "certain person" in my company without getting caught? hehehehe

haha

Easy make a fake email with hotmail. Use false information. However, now adays not only does the user have a virus scanner, the network inwhich the mail server is on usually has one too and will either reject the file or notify the person you sent it to it could be potentially harmful. Besides that, its so gay. So much else you could do to them. If they are on your network, use the "manage" function by right clicking my computer, then manage, and right click comp manage and connect to another computer. depending on the security level, this can be very fun.
