Anybody really good with iPods/iTunes?
Today I won a new 30gig Video iPod at a new teacher induction conference. I'd like to use it instead of my old one. Does anybody know how to switch it out so that I can use the new one in place of the old one? I know there's more to it than just just plugging it in. Or does anybody know how to navigate Apple's website to find the answer? I tried looking for it, but there's so many technical articles and topics about the iPod I got very confused. Thanks.
Is all the media on your old ipod still on your computer? If so, you can just sync it.
If not, your going to have to download an external software client that can actually read into your iPod's hard drive, and retrieve everything in the files.
BTW what ipod do you have? Not the one you just received but the old one? Which generation ipod is it?

Everything is on the computer. I just want to switch out the iPods and leave everything else the same. The old iPod is a 20gig 4th gen. I bought it the day they came out a couple of years ago.
Be sure if it asks to initialized the HD, you choose Windows, and not Mac. If you init on a Mac, it will not sync with Windows machines, but if you init Windows (either on a Mac or Win machine), it will work on both.
Cool. I thought it would be a little more involved than that. I'll give it a shot tomorrow since it'll take hours to upload all my songs.
Should I set the old one back to factory default settings before I hook up the new one? I'm going to give the old one to a friend and don't plan on hooking it back up to the computer as to avoid any problems.
