Another computer guru thread

Hey, guys and gals. I an trying to connect my digital camera to download some pics to the laptop, but I can't get the computer to recognize the camera via the usb ports. I am at a loss as to why. I have done this in the past on this computer, I just have no clue why it's not functioning properly now.

Any clues or help you all can offer would be appreciated.

Plug the camera in (on, in playback mode)

Right click on My Computer, click on Manage

Go to the Device Manager

See anything with a little ! on it in yellow? If yes, right click, uninstall device. Then unplug and replug camera.

If no, right click on the computer name at the top of the list and click "Scan for blah blah blah".

If those don't work your screwed.

Well, I didn't find anything, but I did get a popup windows window that said:

Windows cannot open help and support because a system service is not running.

To fix this problem start the service named help and support.

Odd. I think something got uninstalled somehow.

Go back to the Computer Management program (My PC, right click, manage) and then to go "Services and Apps", then Services... Find "Plug and Play" and double click on it. 2/3 the way down in the window is the status... is it running?

I did that already, just like every other time I hook it up. Something is awry.
