I'm looking for your suggestions as to a very sleek (would like HID headlights), fast and lightweight bike. I may not buy one soon so I'm just looking to talk to those who know about bikes. I know diddly. I will probably go with black, would like a seat on the back for a lady friend, and I'm only interested in sport bikes. I am not looking for a beginner bike, I outgrow everything I go mediocre on too quick to buy a separate bike per stage. I'd like a bike with a good aftermarket, year doesn't matter, just newish or new. I want something with comfort as well, I don't even know if its possible to ride a bike for a very long period of time while in comfort but I'd like a decently comfortable bike.
Lastly, what kind of prices am I looking at? Is it better to buy already modded? What kind of miles are high for a bike? I know, I'm looking for someone who knows their bikes, lots of questions! Please no overly biased opinions.

Go for a 1000RR, not a 600. This is my brother's bike. He says it's a whole lot more comfortable than his '04 GSXR. And you're more likely to die on a 1000 than out grow it.

If someone could "out grow" a liter bike I would expect them to be a factory racer for one of the big makers.I've seen way too many people get seriously injured or killed cause they wanted to be cool and get a supersport for their first bike so I will not be recommending anything since you don't want a "beginner" bike.
take my advice..... BUY A BEGINNER BIKE. even if its only for one season, cause no matter how confident/ ****y you are YOU WILL LAY DOWN YOUR FIRST BIKE. the guys that start off on liter bikes dont ride for too long, they either they die making stupid novice mistakes, or they get scared after they lay it down, the guys that start out on 250-500cc bikes ride forever.... I started out on a 32 hp 500cc bike and am ready to move up to a 600cc after one cd
I understand the risk Adam, love active/extreme sports. I've been into standup jet skiing, got a pretty hopped up ski for a first one and am outgrowing that as I aim for aerial tricks (BR's, backflips, etc), all this in the course of a season or two. I know there are a lot of dumb decisions made on first bikes, and I might be a perfect candidate but I assure you it's not to look cool, or I'd probably buy a neon green ninja. Just looking for facts buddy.
I don't leave anything stock so I'll probably mod the bike quite a bit, it seems like everyone is at war with what bike is the quickest, they all look pretty damn fast to the average joe like myself but I know when I get immersed in the sport all I will want is more, no different from the next guy. I'd rather take it easy as I learn on the 1000rr than purchase something less than adequate. Everyone recommended a stock 650-800 standup ski, if I would have went with anything stock I would have outgrown that bugger in the first couple months. However extremely unreliable (always wrenching on mine, buying new parts), modded was the way to go for me. I'm now huge into the sport and hitting the surf as often as possible before the season is over and I have to winterize :[
Next sport is definitely bikes. I need something that can get me somewhere cheap and fast, quite the contrary with my truck =]

Styx, I'm glad you posted that, I might go for a 600 now that you mention I'm going to lay down the bike I'd like to wait on a 1000rr. How often are these bikes laid down? I know me and I will def screw around, push limits...Are there pegs or something you can add on that will minimize damage to paint, handlebars, etc? I guess jet skiing is a sport to go all out on whereas bikes are something to take slow? Time will only tell.

I have a friend who started on a honda 600f4i, more than powerful enough for his 135 pound frame. I have another friend who started with a kawasaki zx9r, more than enough for his 330 pound frame.
Are there any of you who had purchased a 600 and regretted it as a first bike? I can't imagine there being one side to the story. Anyone have a different experience as to how a 1000 worked out, are you an athletic person, overweight, etc?

I wouldn't start on anything more than a 600, I layed my little 500 down the first week I had it after I entered a corner too fast and locked up both tires, very novice mistake but I was able to hop back on with minimal damage to a bike I only payed $2200 for. a 600 should last you a while, the learning curve on a 1 liter is just too steep for a beginner, its like being 15 and trying to learn how to drive in an F1 car. with bikes you have to start small and work your way up to the fun stuff if you want to be a good rider, my buddy has a r1 he bought as his first bike and he BARELY rode it, he was ready to sell it after the first season cause he couldn't handle it. in fact out on the twisty rodes we are familiar with he cant keep up with me. of course he can wipe my face on the straights but still. I'd recomend something like a 250-500 beginner bike for a season, even the 600's are alot to handle for a novice. I know honda makes a 500 that looks sweet for a starter bike.

Whatever you end up getting, make sure you get a Honda. When it comes to bikes (especially sport ones) Honda makes a great bike. My first, a 2002 F4i was MORE than enough for me even at 185lbs. Then I got a 2003 600rr, and that was almost too much power. Since then the 600cc class of sport bikes has gotten lighter as well as more and more powerful. If you've never ridden before and insist on a streetbike type ride then I would go with the 600rr. You can pick up a lightly used one (always a good idea for the 1st bike) for somewhere around $4000 with a yoshimura pipe already on it. I would recommend getting that, riding it for a couple years and then stepping up to a liter bike. Motorcycling is a great sport, lots of fun but at the same time it can kill you if you're not careful. Please please please please please take an MSF course and then read a book called "Proficient Motorcycling." It's a good read. Also remember, all the gear all the time, or ATGATT. You might think you look like a fool when you're out with everyone else and you're the only one wearing a jacket (mesh or leather, your choice) long pants, and boots but guess who's NOT gonna be all torn up when they fall.
Now, I dont subscribe to this BS that there are 2 types of riders, those who have fallen and those who are going to fall. Utter BS if you ask me. I've been riding both off road and on the street for 15+ years and I've never had a major spill. A little minor road rash once or twice (which hurts like **** btw) but nothing major. I attribute that to my willingness to learn, and taking it slow and easy. Please don't try to be glamorous like these people you see all over the internet doing stoppies and ****. Truth be told, you're a cool dude, and I wouldn't wanna see you splattered all over the pavement, nor would I wanna see any motorcyclist splattered. Anyway, you get my drift. Oh yeah, on your first bike I would save up some money and pay cash. If you finance, you are required to have full coverage insurance. For a 19 year old on a 600RR, that could be in upwards of $300+ per month. Ouch. I pay $285/yr for full coverage on my Shadow.
Another thing, check out the Suzuki SV650S too. A little more manageable for a first time bike and still plenty of power to last you for a couple years. You can buy a used one for $3000 - $3500 because dealers often sell them for $5499 OTD new, which drives down the price of the used ones. Good luck, and be sure to post some pics no matter what you get.
