I don't think it is Bush's fault.

But Tim Pawlenty and Norm Coleman............

Where'd those guys get their engineering degrees? Holding 2 jobs, elected official and bridge inspector, is quite laudable IMO.

Well the bridge had been inspected before and was found that it needed repairs years ago.

An inspector can shut down a bridge to traffic if it's deemed unsafe. The governor, a senator, or the Prez of the United States have no say in the matter once it reaches that point. Nobody knew this was going to happen or the bridge would not have had traffic on it. Somebody screwed up; but, it was probably an honest mistake. A lot of finger pointing will happen before we all finally settle back down to that though.

I would have to look it up but it is something like that. I am interested to see why the funding never came through for fixing it.

The roads in Louisiana are crappy; but, you can still drive on them. If anyone thought the bridge was going to collapse, it would have been closed. Somebody (an engineer) screwed up in their assessment of just how bad the bridge was. Substandard doesn't necessarily mean unusable.

It's been going here in Jax too. We have numerous big bridges here so this is on the news at least 7-10 minutes of a 30 minute newscast. One of our stations has the news on from 10pm - 11:30pm and they bring this up on every half hour segment with at least 2 different stories on it.

Yes this is a tragic event, but Enough is Enough!

No chance of that here, unless you own a Sherman Tank.
