So about $100-$200 per year
to handel[sic] searches...
More bandwidth means adding an additional T line at $3K per month
and you will need faster processors every 6 months to keep up.
So new MB and Porcessors[sic] or all new servers every 6 months on top of adding T lines.
So about $36,000 per year for bandwidth and $500-$1000 per year for equipment.
I'm not a business genious[sic], but if it was my site, I'm pretty sure I'd much rather provide storage!

For example, lets assume you keep adding storage - well, all that storage to handle all the repeat questions and answers . . . but the asking of all those questions over and over and the answers and insults thrown back, over and over, takes up an equal number of bandwidth if not more than would be required for the searches. Therefore, using your numbers, the only thing different is you added $500 - $1000 in storage. So Steve (oops, Internet Brands Worldwide Holdings LLC) would spend $500 - $1000 more your way.
Or not.
Let's just say it's a toss-up and continue insulting those who ask the same old question over and over.

Looking at and posting put together is less than 1/8 of the resources used by a search.
Now the down side when you have multiple threads on the same subject, when you do a search it takes ALOT more bandwidth and system resources to perform the search and find all the threads with the key words. That jumbles up the searches.
I have a very slow internet connection, yet I could easily search attack any Vbulletin forum with a single computer and would be comparable to a well oganised and orchestrated multi user ping attack. You cant get enough people to open enough threads or post in threads fast enough to even casue a hicup.

I need to retract this statemnt, I don't know if it is still possiable, but a few years ago, there use to be a forum on the net that everyone was scared of. If they got mad at another online forum they would attack and overload the server with post until it crashed.
D you've got a good memory, who was that?
