However, it started with a bunch of us old timers getting tired of people using 800x600 pictures with a 39 line parts list of mods for signatures. It was decided a year or more back it would be nice to have guidelines for sigs... images to remain no larger than 500x100 and not exceed a certain file size (sub 100k or something like that).

Anywho, it caught on rather quickly and the word spread about sig sizes. Since then the number of obscenely large sigs has dropped significantly and the forums are more pleasant to look at and track posts via sigs.

A few shmucks knock it, but overall most are on board with the sig guidelines.
What he said!

How ever with the new owners maybe we have enough bandwidth and large enough servers to handel all the search request.
.... Not to mention the storage to hold all the thousands of repeat questions ( and repeated answers) because a Search wasn't done.

Search always has, and always will be, a more appropriate use of resources. The engine is exceedingly efficient.

Sorry - the lazy, spoon-fed, snotsucking bastards will need to find other excuses.

Couldnt agree more. I could easily live the rest of my life without another 4.6/5.4 debate, What tuner is best, and what size tires can I fit threads

photoshop
paintshop
MS paint

There are many types of photo editing software out there. It bouils down to personal preference.

I use JASC Paintshop Pro. I find it to be a lot more user friendly, but it lacks a few tools that advanced users use. I find PSP to be perfect for making sigs. It's also a prettyo good program to learn on.

storage VS bandwidth and processors...
Lets do the math...

To handel storage
350 GB Hard Drive = $80-$100
That will take care of storage for atleast 6 months of not a year.
So about $100-$200 per year

to handel searches...
More bandwidth means adding an additional T line at $3K per month
and you will need faster processors every 6 months to keep up.
So new MB and Porcessors or all new servers every 6 months on top of adding T lines.
So about $36,000 per year for bandwidth and $500-$1000 per year for equipment.

I'm not a business genious, but if it was my site, I'm pretty sure I'd much rather provide storage!

You got that right! I'm going to pretend I didn't just read your post. Another 'T'? $200 vs $37,000?!!!! I don't even know where to begin....

so bandwidth is cheaper than storage?
