Computer Question

I received this error report from Micosoft Windows. I have no idea why or how important it is. Is it necessary that I install an updated version of NVIDIA Graphics Driver? If so, which version is the latest. Also below are the links that both Micorssoft and NVIDIA gave me. Thanks for any help.

Problem caused by NVIDIA Graphics Driver

This problem was caused by NVIDIA Graphics Driver. This program was created by NVIDIA Corporation. NVIDIA Corporation does not currently have a solution for the problem that you reported.

You have 3 options, reboot and see if it happens again or go ahead and grab Version: 71.89 install that, even if you already have updated to that version previously then it might have went bad.
Or go to the computer manufacturers webste and see if tehy have a driver for it.
I prefer to go with the computer manufacturer versions myself if teh rest of teh computer is stock, unless that poses a conflict then I'll see what it's conflicting with and update what ever it's conflicting with. If still buggy then I'll go to the componet manufacturer sites,

The Nvidia driver is 2 years old. The Microsoft driver should be newer. I'd just do a Windows update and see if that cures your ills.

Well, I left some stuff out to see what kind of reply I got first. I did go ahead with the 71.89 Version, but somehow it wouldn't let be complete the installation even though I followed the instructions correctly. Said I needed the disc. I then when back into Microsoft and it then allowed me to download it from there. When it rebooted, my settings were all screwed up. I set the settings back to where they were, but the screen was off to the left a little. So I took the chicken way out and restored my computer. I'll try rebooting now and see if I get the same error.

Yea I have always had issues with microsft drivers for componets. I only use microsft to update microsoft products.
There is an ethical line that microsoft crosses by releasing updates for componets. Sometimes they have permission, sometimes they don't. Wouldnt bother me as much if they didnt go to such great lengths to protect thier stuff that it makes it a bother for me to activate my Microsoft stuff and keep a current Genuine Microsoft Validation Tool software so they know I purchased it.

OK, nothing on reboot.

Ian, for some reason I couldn't find an update on Microsoft until after I tried installing it through NVIDIA.

So what do you think I should do at this point?

I'd wait and see if it happens again.

One time is a fluke, 2 times is an indication and three or more times is a problem.

OK, that's what I was thinking. Will you be around if it happens again? Thanks for your help!

Since you restored it, I'd just wait and see if it happens again. If it does, do like I did. Take it out back and shoot it.

What video card do you have. The one you pointed to was for WinXP and a GeForce 6200. The most current for that card is here. Dated 06/26/2007.
